LOL. Back then, proportional control was exremely expensive and some of it had to be home-built. Forget about SAFE technology. That's why I flew control line as a kid.
I first started flying RC about 15 years ago. A .40 sized trainer with glow engine and radio, along with ground support (flight box, glow battery, fuel, etc) started around $400. I have a giant scale plane with nearly $1k in it (sans radio), and that's cheap for that size. Got one in the box, a 35% CAP232 that when finished, will total upwards of $2k. I've seen $10k models fly. Unreal.
