Hmmm. You are using the same version of Thunderbird (24.3.0) that I am
using. I don't get a prompt to confirm a delete or warning of no trash
folder.

Someone else mentioned the prompt to confirm delete as well. I must
have missed it somewhere in the setup. I'll go look some more.

Yep, 24.3.0.

I couldn't find a setting to restore the delete prompt either, just the
"don't ask again" check box in the prompt itself.

I set auto mark read at 1 second and view threads with unread and never
have to delete newsgroup stuff.

Because he does not want to fill up the disk with trash.

I don't think deleted messages from a newsgroup go into any kind of
"trash" folder, mainly because there isn't one and no apparent way to
create on. You can have a trash folder in the email and "Local
Folders" accounts, but not in the newsgroup account. I suspect they go
into a "temp" file somewhere that has some maximum space before they are
deleted, last in, last out.

There's a setting under account settings / synchronization and storage
to delete more than X days old. Text doesn't amount to much.

Question for those using Thunderbird as a news reader.

If you delete a post, is there a way of getting it back?

They way mine is set, if I accidentally click on "delete", the post
disappears. It's not put in a trash folder (like e-mail). I've
clicked
on "Undo delete" in the Edit bar but that doesn't return the post to
the viewer.

I know I can probably go hunt for it in a cache or something but was
wondering if there is a setting to put deleted newsgroup posts in the
trash bin where it can be recovered.

Just drag and drop it from the trash, back to the in box. Or, right
click on the message in the trash list, and click "move to"... and
click
the folder you want.

There is no "trash" folder for the newsgroup account. Only for the
email account.

I can't find a way to create one either.

My problem is accidentally clicking on "delete". When it's gone, it's
gone.

Go to VIEW, THREADS, and click on ALL. That might bring them back if you
haven't actually somehow deleted them from the server.

Doesn't seem to work. I tried right clicking on "r.boats" in the news
account and then on "Search messages" with both the subfolder and
server boxes checked. I entered the name of a thread in the subject
line. Nothing is returned. Looks like if you "delete" it really
means *delete*. I know you can click on "archive" and save the post.
My problem is I sometimes get a little over zealous in clicking on the
"delete".

Why delete? I just mark them read.

Mine prompts to confirm delete and warns that there is no trash folder.

Agent has a trash folder. I don't use it, allowing deleted posts to just 'disappear'. I also don't
'delete' the posts. Whenever I retrieve new headers, the old ones, whether read or not, are deleted,
unless I've locked them.

He will need to if he wants to pick through it occasionally (trash=read
messages in this case)

That was my advice too.

I think I must have checked the "do not show again" confirm delete
dialog box at some point, as someone suggested. I'll uninstall and
then re-install Thunderbird on one of the laptops and see if it returns.

No I was referring to leaving the read ones on the system and only
seeing unread messages. No delete.
