Swing keels and lift keels
Apart from Southerlys, are there any other 'noted' swing or lift keel
makers? Just scouting around for a long voyage retirement boat. (read = dreaming at this stage) thanks -- Hoges in WA Remove the zeds. |

The aim is for a long time period but not long leaps. Tucking into places and taking our time. Possible Atlantic crossing but not necessarily so and possible Pacific to Aus but not necessarily so. I want shallow draft to get in close to places and up rivers/canals etc but not shallow draft that comes with smaller boats. I want the best of both worlds in other words. -- Hoges in WA Remove the zeds. |

Hanse is another as is the RL34. Frankly if I were considering a trip like that I would prefer a fixed keel. DP |

Buy a boat with fixed keel and a dinghy for the few places you does not come
close enough to dry land. Bjorn "Hoges in WA" wrote in message ... Apart from Southerlys, are there any other 'noted' swing or lift keel makers? Just scouting around for a long voyage retirement boat. (read = dreaming at this stage) thanks -- Hoges in WA Remove the zeds. |

the moment. DP Hoges in WA" wrote in message ... "Arbr64" wrote in message . com... I used to sail an old english twin keel boat. Came in everywhere. That can
be a cheaper alternative. dodo "Hoges in WA" wrote in message ... Apart from Southerlys, are there any other 'noted' swing or lift keel makers? Just scouting around for a long voyage retirement boat. (read = dreaming at this stage) thanks -- Hoges in WA Remove the zeds. |

I do sail an old english twin keel 2foot 6 draft :-) , i dont think i'd take

i think they are the best. i have a pacship29 but i know Tartan makes them
up to 50ft or so. The bit of leeway is insignificant except for perhaps long voyages and other factors could be more prevalent. You will love being able to go where so many others can't and it is amzing how many palces you can get to with an extra foot or so of clearance. rick "dodo" wrote in message ... I might be obvious, but the two have very different pourposes.
Swinging the keel is to adding some kgm to the righting moment, while lifting it makes mooring possible in shallow waters. I'm not sure they are substitutive.
