Texting Triggers Fatal Movie Theater Shooting
Jan. 13, 2014

An argument between two couples over text messaging inside of a
Florida
movie theater turned deadly today that left one man dead and a
woman
wounded.

Police said that two couples began arguing before a showing of
"Lone
Survivor" over one couple's text messaging.

A male suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, became
angry
and took out a gun and shot the other couple, according to the
Pasco
County Sheriff's office.

"The victim was on his cellphone, he was texting. We believe he was
making some kind of noise. This noise led to an altercation,"
Sheriff
Chris Nocco said, according to ABC News affiliate WFTS. "During
that
altercation, the suspect decided to pull out a .380 and he shoots
the
victim."

The sheriff's office said in a statement that an unnamed "good
Samaritan" helped detain the suspect until police arrived.

The two victims were airlifted to Tampa General Hospital, where the
man
was pronounced dead and the woman is being treated for non-life
threatening injuries, according to police.

The shooting occurred around 1:30 p.m. today at the Cobb Grove 16
Theater in Wesley Chapel, Fla., north of Tampa.

Police noted that the shooter and victims did not appear to know
one
another.

Well, that didn't take long. So much for the new, improved
rec.boats.

Perhaps you should take charge and publish a list of what topics are
allowed here and what topics are not. I thought there was general
agreement to avoid personal name-calling here, and to avoid initiating
partisan political discussions. The post I put up is neither personal
nor partisan political.

It's fine with me if you want this newsgroup to avoid discussions
about
firearms and other apparently volatile subjects.

List away.

You're a big boy. You should be able to figure out what it is about
your
postings that make them so offensive to many, if not most of the
posters
who read rec.boats. It's not so much the topics as what you do with
them. I'm about ready to be not so nice to you if you haven't
figured it
out yet.

How *you* behave here is entirely up to *you*, as it always has been.

Woo boy. Here we go. It's the old, "You started it first" routine and
after a while nobody can remember who actually started all the animosity.

I'm not accusing anyone of anything. I am merely stating an indisputable
truth. How anyone behaves here is entirely up to the individual. If
"Poster X" behaves like an asshole, it is because "Poster X" wants to
behave that way. He can't really blame it on "Poster Y," because, as
"Poster X," he is entirely in charge of what he posts.

Right. I agree. But since the new year the tone has changed and
people, including you, have been much more respectful to each other.
So, a clean slate has been established. Who is going to be the one to
mess it up first?

No, that's not the answer nor the problem.

You are trying to establish who should respond to whom and if one of the
people involved happens to be disagreeable with you it's not ok
according to your "rules".

Harry and I have demonstrated that you can communicate and often
disagree without being disrespectful. You seem to feel that I therefore
