You can not campaign near a voting place. Why should the media be able to influence an election on Election Day? What does exit polls accomplish? The media broke the law with impunity in the Al Gore debacle in Florida. Two time zones and they reported results while some polling places were still open in the Florida Panhandle. People actually left the lines and did not vote, as they figured their vote was going to be wasted anyway. Reporters should have spent jail time for that law breaking as well as the media executives. What law did they break? The law where you can not post results or exit polls until the polling places closed. Florida is in two time zones. What *law* is that, Mr. Political Encyclopedia? The exit polls may be allowed, but the results from a polling place can not be publicly distributed until all polls are closed. You can Google the Florida law. As well as probably every other state. |

Soon you will be able to come to peace with yourself and accept the fact that Bush won. :-) |

Harry really wanted Strom Thurmond to be president. That was a likely scenario if they dragged this out for another month or so. Without Jeb, Katherine Harris and "the fix" at the Supreme Court, Dubya would have spent the rest of his life sucking wind in some backwater Texas 'burb, just as he is doing now. :) Yep, that election was a milestone, not only for the country but for rec.boats. Prior to 2000, this newsgroup's focus was still predominately on boating subjects sprinkled with light hearted exchanges and debates, none particularly mean spirited in nature. Many were funny as hell and provided a source of boating related entertainment. Who can forget the famous bilge pump debate between Marcus and what's her name? Many participants, now long forgotten, had expert experience and knowledge that they shared. The election and loss by Al Gore was the pivot point of the decline of rec.boats as a boating newsgroup. Political bitterness raised it's ugly head, led mostly by Harry Krause and joined by a relatively small group of Democrats who were obviously disappointed with the election results. Most got over it. Not Harry. Harry began his (now 13 year) quest to change the minds of every person who does not support or believe in his liberal political ideology. When that fails, he commences a campaign of craftily worded insults and disparaging comments about the person. Ultimately, if the person holds his ground and becomes a threat to his credibility, Harry exercises his ultimate punishment ... he "plonks" the non-believing offender. Its actually funny to witness in a way and it's also entertaining to sometimes bait a hook and watch him go for it with always predictable results. But he's not getting better. He's actually getting worse. He's still counting chaffs in Florida ballots cards desperately looking for proof that Gore really won. Harry's plonk file is merely a crutch. We can reach out and touch him in an instant. His plonking buys him time to research or think up, what he thinks, is a clever response. I've seen him go from a nasty, bitter, self centered, asshole, to a bumbling idiot, over the course of a few short years. Nevertheless Harry IS Mr. Entertainment for us boating enthusiasts. What would we ever do without him? -- "The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. Leadership means that, 'the buck stops here.'
