Dr. Zhivago was a terrific book and movie, though the movie differed from the book, and neither really depicted the level of horror of the first few years of communist rule in Russia. Speaking of Dr. Zhivago ... The movie came out when I was living in Connecticut. I was "exploring" at the time, dating different girls every week or so. All they wanted to do was see "Dr. Zhivago". I must have seen it 5 times in 3 months. Catchy tune from that movie... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Yd2PzoF1y8 Got stuck in New York overnight with wife and kids (on way to Disneyworld) way back in the early 90's. A guy in tux and violin played this at our dinner table. You *had* to do it, huh? I didn't even open the youtube link and I knew it was "Laura's Theme". Now it's stuck in my head for the rest of the day. Thanks a lot ! :-) It's Lara's Theme, named for the character Lara Antipova. Lara is a Russian name, Laura is not. The familiar version of Lara, used by family members and close friends, would be...Larissa. I have a cousin Lara, but she uses the variant Laryssa, which is also acceptable among Russians. Her grandmother's first name was Tonya, also Russian. -- Religion: together we can find the cure. |
