There are more people in poverty than there were in the early 60s and some have a couple of generations of their family who have never had meaningful employment.. That is not true, per capita. Cite. http://tinyurl.com/nfjsy7r It is ironic that the same chart Kevin posts to tell us how successful the war on poverty is was used to prove the opposite on the Wiki page. The poverty rate was falling before we declared war on it and after the government tried to "fix" it, the poverty rate has been stagnant for almost a half century.in spite of throwing the best part of a trillion dollars at it . The welfare policies have proved they are only capable of keeping 10-15% of people in inescapable poverty. It certainly is not showing progress. I don't know about Kevin, but where did I EVER say that the war on poverty was or is successful?? All I said was that your position that poverty per capita was greater in the '60's than it is now was horse****, and it is. |

Poverty has hovered between 10 and 15 percent for the last 45 years. You call that success? Again, I never, EVER said that the war on poverty was a success or not a success for that matter. What I said was that your position that poverty was worse in the '60's than it is now was not true. And it's not. Where does this **** that I think the war on poverty is and was a success come from??? Are you channeling Scotty's jawbone? |

There are more people in poverty than there were in the early 60s and some have a couple of generations of their family who have never had meaningful employment.. If you think that is the case, then you and the rest of the Republicans should be working to get rid of regulations that penalize single mothers for having a "man in the house." If you want more impoverished single mothers to hold down jobs, then we will need to increase the minimum wage substantially and find a way to provide high-quality daycare for the children left at home. As for marriage, my understanding is that younger women of all educational and employment levels are far less interested in that form of relationship than the women of previous generations, and it has nothing to do with the tax code. I know lots of couples in their 40s who have no desire to marry their partners or anyone else, and that includes the women as well as the men. Welcome to the me generation. |
