I remember years ago driving to a gig in Santa Cruz from Point Reyes.
Along the coast road there were miles of lettuce fields and in them hundreds of people bent over harvesting the crops. It was then I realized that without these workers, I would not be eating lettuce or any other fruits and vegetables that were on my table nightly. So this labor day, I offer my respect to those who have the strength and the stamina to bring in the harvest so that we may eat. I hope that you and your children will find a way to make a home in this beautiful land in which all us in some way are immigrants. And to all the workers here in America who have enriched our lives with their labor, I offer my heartfelt thanks and gratitude. Jesse Colin Young |
