Meanwhile, mini-me (Patrick Duval, Governor) has sponsored proposed legislation to further limit what may be owned or done in MA with regard to firearms. Included in the proposed changes to MA General Laws a 1. Limit of one firearm purchase per resident, per month. The purchase of more than one firearm within a 30 day period will be a felony, punishable by 2.5 years in prison for the buyer. 2. Previously grandfathered magazine clips that hold 11 or more rounds (standard Glock mag) must be legally disposed of within one year. Only 7 round magazines will be permitted. 3. Require gun license applicants to disclose their mental health histories. 4. Prohibit assault style firearms from being stored in homes. 5. Ban all high-capacity ammunition magazines, grandfathered or new, including .22lr. 6. Require gun owners to purchase liability insurance. 7. Tighten access to high-powered rounds of ammunition. (whatever *that* means). 8. Mandate buyers to undergo background checks before purchasing weapons at gun shows. 9. Require private gun sales to occur at the business of a licensed dealer so that the sale can be tracked electronically. 10. Several more that create more "crimes" for owning a prohibited gun, prohibited magazine, prohibited kind of ammo, and anything else they can dream up and get passed. Status: The bill was filed in February, 2013 and is currently making the rounds through the various required hearings before going to the capital for a vote.
