That's really funny. The retired cop's employer negotiated a contract
with his union and you want to bust that agreement because he has an
almost decent pension from his former employer and you don't.

Those "negotiations" are basically coercion with the tax payers being
the victims. They have no say in the contracts but they get stuck with
the bills ... or they simply move away as the people in detroit did.

Negotiations with public employees are done under the direction of
elected public officials.

they won't be held accountable for, unlike a strike right here and

Oh, dear. An almost reasonable retirement.

Almost? 70K tax free is looking pretty reasonable to me.

Who are lobbied by the same unions they negotiate with and who will
endure the wrath of those same unions at the polls if they actually
argue with any of the union demands.
In the case of some public service unions,, the union negotiator may
even be paid by the city.

Here in the sf Bay Area, BART the semi rapid transit, is going on strike
for a 23% raise over the next 3 years. They already are among the highest
paid transit workers in the nation. Average driver makes $73k salary with
an additional $66k in overtime. Plus fully paid retirement and $93 a month
for a medical plan no matter the size of the family. The SEIU leader has
already declared WAR in those words.

Yup any fireman or cop who retires on disability is immune from state
or federal taxes on their pension.

BTW I am sad about my neighbor, He had a massive stroke last night and
did not wake up

RIP Les Stacho. We will miss you.

Only up to 50% is tax free. But here in California 90+% of firemen retire
on disability. Seems as if they could do the job for all 30 years, but
get.a disability rating on retirement. I thought Florida had no personal
income tax.

SF should do like other places and pave over the tracks and call it a
bike path.

Their BART, along with their MUNI lines and county transits actually
work well and carry a LOT of people who if not for their systems would
be funneled across a few bridges, and that isn't cheap neither? HEY
BILL, what's the toll across the bridges these days?

A legal decision that reaffirms this.
http://ericjohnltd.com/ericjohnltd/2...pension-issue/

Oh, man.....

"The IRS argued that the benefits paid after turning age 50 were taxable
retirement income. It cited Tateosian, TC Memo 2008-101, where the Tax
Court held that because a disabled pensioner?s disability benefits
effectively terminated under Minnesota law once he turned age 50 and
became a deemed service pensioner, his payments could no longer be
characterized as compensation for personal injuries under SS104(a) for
federal income tax purposes."
