are nice guys who just get caught up in internet frenzy when they post
cranky stuff here.

Absolutely. That's why I was commiserating with you!

If you get out this way it does seem very camper friendly. There are
USFS campgrounds in most of the national forest areas we visited.
There seem to be a lot more tent campers than motor homes but that may
just be because we were up around the PCT most of the places we hiked.
A lot of the trail heads are on unimproved forest service roads.
A few of them were not really meant for a 2WD crossover vehicle but we
made it through. This Edge is getting a workout tho. I bought the
insurance and I don't care.

We are down on the coast now so I doubt we will be back in the woods
much here,

We're still in the early planning stages for a trip to Yellowstone and environs, and hopefully,
Alaska.

Alaska is OK in the summer. It might actually be two hot for you in
Fairbanks now, close to 100 in the day. Down in the Kenai it is more
moderate, high 60s and 70s.
We really liked the Kenai, particularly the west side. Seward is a big
tourist trap because that is where the cruise ships dock. They have
wheel chair accessible glacier tours and stuff. When you get over on
the other side in Homer, you can find hikes that you need to take a
water taxi to and you might not see another person all day.

Thanks for the tips. Wherever we end up going has to have a campground. I'd like to be able to
unhook the trailer and go sightseeing. That glacier reminded me of the Mendenhall glacier, but the
hills were much steeper.

We saw a lot bigger glaciers but we had to hike a few miles each way
to get to this one so it seemed better.

A lot of folks just live on the land in their campers in Alaska but
there are some campgrounds of various qualities. A lot are just a
place to park, maybe with a 120/30a receptacle.

The 30A is all I need. Without the air conditioner 15 amps will work.
