My wife has an ap on her Galaxy Note that lets her print directly to
any network printer you can see on WiFi. (our house printer and that
big honker they have in her office)

The galaxy is an android and they recognize non Apple equipment.

I know of a handful of iPhone/iPad apps that "connect" the devices
wirelessly and directly to non-Apple printers. I use such an app to
print to my Epson photo printer and my HP laserjet, neither of which are
AirPrint printers.
