(Since mom would rather be riding a horse anyway :) John (Gun Nut) H. -- Hope you're having a great day! |

Sure hope Mrs. E doesn't pop in here anymore. |

Richard, That's really a nice luxury blue water battle wagon!
But it kinda reminds me of when Jed Clampet was considering buying a battleship. And during the sea trials, Jethro said "Wow uncle Jed, we could do us some mighty tall huntin' and fishin' with this rig!" |

And during the sea trials, Jethro said "Wow uncle Jed, we could do us some mighty tall huntin' and fishin' with this rig!" ---------------------------------- Funny. It's a beautiful boat (at least in the pictures) but not anything I'd be interested in. Too big, too expensive to run, too expensive to maintain .... the list goes on and on. I was looking for a Sabreliner but am having a change of heart after looking at a couple. The more I think about the Grand Banks 36 we had, the more I realize that at this stage of life it's much more my style. Even my favorite past boat , the 52' Navigator, was a little too big to singlehand comfortably. I did it many times, but it's much easier with a boat savvy crewmate. Of course the underpowered, single screw Grand Banks wasn't the easiest boat to back into a slip with, especially with wind or current, but it was sure inexpensive to run. Plus, learning to become somewhat proficient in "back and fill" was fun and a challenge. As much as I envy Wayne and his extensive cruises on his larger GB (with much larger diesel twins), I don't see that kind of long range cruising in my future. It really all depends on where we end up living in the next few years. Not in a big rush. When the right one comes along, I'll know it. |

They usually have the speed to get you out to the Bahamas and back in a reasonable length of time. There is some great fishing out there, along with a lot of cruising and diving possibilities. Good looking boat, BTW. |

There is some great fishing out there, along with a lot of cruising and diving possibilities. ---------------------------------------------------- Back when I was totally bat **** boating crazy and the Navigator was in Florida, I took the USCG course over the winter to get a 6 pack license. My intention was to get a sportsfish type boat for use during the summer while we were in MA and do some fishing charters with my brother as first mate. All went as planned and I ended up getting a brand new 37' Egg Harbor Sportsyacht. It had twin 420 hp Caterpillar diesels and on the sea trial topped out at 34 knots. Cruise was more like 26 to 28 knots. But I quickly learned that cruise became more like 17-19 knots at best in the waters of Cape Cod Bay, Buzzards Bay or the "Canyons" most of the time. Anything faster was an uncomfortable ride and the hull was slamming into the waves. I think I was spoiled by the Navigator because it could cruise at 19 knots in a much higher sea state and still provide a very stable, comfortable ride. The Egg was great on those rare, occasional days with 1 to 2 foot waves but that doesn't happen often. After two summers I realized that chartering wasn't my bag for a number of reasons. The boat takes a beating when fishing and most of the people that wanted to go out on a fishing trip also liked to get half **** faced. I didn't want the responsibility, so I sold the boat and brought the Navigator back to MA. But, we did catch a lot of fish, including our first tuna with that boat. This is the Egg Harbor model I had: http://meetbliss.com/EggHarbor/EggMain.jpg |
