Some people smoke and get away with it, others die in their 40s and
50s. It probably depends on your genetic make up. Quitting was one
of the best things that I ever did, and was also one of the toughest.
There are some things requiring intense concentration that I was never
quite as good at after quitting.

Same here, you have to have will power, unbelievable will power. But
after a year when I started to get clear lungs, I couldn't believe how
much better I felt.

Yes, that was the good part, feeling better and no longer being
physically addicted to nicotine. It's a tough habit to kick however
and even a year later I would sometimes find my hand in my shirt
pocket looking for a pack of cigarettes that wasn't there.
