Default sailing from Portland, ME thru St Lawrence Seaway to Lake Ontario

Next May I'm considering sailing our Berneteau Oceanus 370 from Portland, ME
to Lake Erie via the St Lawrence Seaway. (rather than going the Hudson
River)

What are your comments, suggestions, concerns, estimates on time frame for
such a trip (to Lake Ontario from Portland.)

One person told me that sailboats usually go North out of Lake Ontario
because of the almost constant ebb outward along the St Lawrence Seaway. Is
that true???

Thanks in advance!

Ron
