Ron check the Canadian sailing directions regarding passage comments. I did
the passage during August from Erie to St. Lawrence - PEI down to Boston.
It was a very cold and dangerous trip. Tides, currents were a big factor as
well as safe harbors which there are not many. You would be wiser to go the
Hudson instead. Only a handful of boats make the passage and its for a good
reason.

Next May I'm considering sailing our Berneteau Oceanus 370 from Portland,

ME
to Lake Erie via the St Lawrence Seaway. (rather than going the Hudson
River)

What are your comments, suggestions, concerns, estimates on time frame for
such a trip (to Lake Ontario from Portland.)

One person told me that sailboats usually go North out of Lake Ontario
because of the almost constant ebb outward along the St Lawrence Seaway.

Is
that true???

Thanks in advance!

Ron

I just asked the same question in rec.boats.cruising and you might want to
check out those answers as well. Also there's a good URL for the
Trent-Severn Waterway as a sidetrip. I'm trucking my boat from Seattle or
Vancouver to Lake Superior, possibly Sault Ste. Marie and am still looking
for information on Canadian boat hauling firms if anyone knows of one or
two.
