That is what made me want to upgrade my equipment (a .22 SNS at the time) and work on some better training. The first time I was shot at was in the early 1960s. I had a small grant to report on a group of college students who went south during spring break to help rebuild a church that had been set on fire by the klan and also to help register voters. One night after a day of taking photos and doing interviews, we were heading back to where we were staying when the car we were in came under attack. It was a white Oldsmobile driven by a local official of the black Deacons for Defense and Justice. The car doors were peppered with bullet holes, but no one was hurt. Our driver returned fire and thought he had hit someone. The afternoon paper the next day had an article about a local who had been hit by a "stray bullet" while night hunting. Right where we were attacked. I was the real hero in that shooting. I got behind the other side of the car and stayed low. :) A group of us were roughed up a bit the next day in town. We weren't non-violent. I had the school's Nikon F with me, and it was on a wide web strap. I swung it and smashed it against the side of the head of one of the good old boys who was swinging at us with his fists. Put a small dent in the camera. Ahh, the good old days. |

There's always the Isle of Man TT races, where women compete: TT newcomer and Supersport racer, England’s Jenny Tinmouth now owns the fastest women’s lap record for the Isle of Man at an average speed of 116.483 mph (187 km/h) on her Honda Fireblade. The previous record was held by the phenomenal Maria Costello, who in 2004 became the fastest women on the Isle of Man with an average speed of just over 114 mph (183 km/h). British Supersport rider Jenny Tinmouth is the latest in a long line of talented young riders who raced and made their débuts at 2009 Isle of Man TT Races. Jenny, 30-years of age works is a motorcycle mechanic by trade and works for “Two Wheel Workshop”. She’s already got the reputation for being the fastest female rider in the UK—the Isle of Man is now part of her accomplishments as well as being the first woman to compete in the TT’s solo classes since France's Fabienne Migout rode in the Supersport and Production 600cc races in 2004. Tinmouth comes from England’s North, Ellesmere Port, Cheshire and started racing in 2000 in the 125cc class. She soon progressed to Britain’s MRO (Motorcycle Racing Organisation) Championship and by 2003 was a regular in the 125cc British Championship grabbing her first points in 2004 at Mallory Park. That year also saw her become the first female rider to lead a British Championship solo race, however briefly during Brands Hatch round. When Maria Costello heard of Jenny’s new record she was very complimentary yet also expressed that she intends a comeback on her Kawasaki ZX6. http://tinyurl.com/chkl78q |

That's what the guys in your hobby called you, "asshat" right? Anyway, Jess rides for a "mens" team in both of her disciplines... Jess took second in her class yesterday, running first all race until she made a mistake working lap traffic with three corners to go and Gina passed her for first... I am a happy dad, the sponsors love it since this is her first race back in almost 6 mos... :) There were experts, pros, and over thirty vets on the track with them, it was a good race for Jess on one of her favorite tracks. Since you are known far and wide as a 'natural born liar', you'd better supply verifiable sites to confirm. |

I was only shot at once in 9 years. -------------------------------------- Actually, I should correct that. I've been shot at twice. The first time I damn near shot myself and I still shudder when I think about it. I was working for a Bekins Moving & Storage agent during the summer after graduating from high school and before starting school in the fall. We were moving the household furnishings of an old guy's house (he had passed away) and while breaking down a bed I found a slender, steel tube between the mattress and the box spring. Didn't have a clue what it was. It had a clip of sorts on one end that was spring loaded. I stood there holding it in one hand and playing with the spring clip with the other trying to figure out what it was. A couple of times I looked right down the hollow tube. After inspecting it for a while I gave the clip a stronger pull and released it. BAMM! Thing went off and blew a hole in the ceiling. Scared the crap out of me. Turns out it was some form of a "zip" gun that probably dated back to the 1920's. |

It wasn't me personally, it was the car I was in with our college group and a local driver. Might have been at the same time Herring the Racist was in Vietnam, helping to slaughter non-combatant civilians. Your support of the Vietnam war is appreciated. And, for Kevin - ESAD is too big a target to miss. Salmonbait -- 'Name-calling' - the liberals' last stand. |
