"F.O.A.D." wrote in message ... The real question isn't being asked...the real question is "what the hell are we doing making war on people in so many places, and are our efforts making us safer?" It's been entertaining watching John McCain and Lindsay Graham going over the waterfall the last couple of weeks over the Chuck Hagel nomination. The two are still upset that Hagel thought Dubya's initiation of wars against Iraq and Afghanistan were ill-advised, and McCain and the rest of the neocons are upset that Hagel might not be as eager as they are to initiate a war against Iran. And this gets back to my disdain for the military establishment, of which McCain and his buddies are a part. --------------------------------------- I can understand why we originally went into Afghanistan. But I don't understand why we are still there, other than political deals. As for McCain, I respect his military service and hardships he endured, but as a United States Senator he has lost all his luster. He's just as bad as the ultra left progressives, IMO. Time to retire, I think .... maybe past his time. |

I've asked him several times how many Vietnamese people he killed with explosives or even his rifle, but as far as I recall, he has never responded with the facts. Don't personally know, but with a bit of speculation, I'd say John 'probably' didn't kill anybody. Well, I'd have to disagree about the first sentence. They're called Combat Engineers for a reason. But, I'm not going to delve into specifics. Salmonbait -- 'Name-calling'...the liberals' answer to a lost argument! You know you live in a Country run by idiots if... ...hard work and success are rewarded with higher taxes and government intrusion, while slothful, lazy behavior is rewarded with EBT cards, WIC checks, Medicaid, subsidized housing, and free cell phones. Well yes, John. I didn't say you didn't blow stuff up. but "Combat" [usually] isn't in the picture that is unless the orders are specified. At least that's what I gather. |

Who are some ultra left progressives in positions of influence and authority? ------------------------------------------ My phrase, perhaps incorrect. I'd consider Elizabeth Warren one, although as previously stated I think she did a heck of a good job embarrassing the members of the Senate Banking Committee. Mostly I am annoyed by the extreme political pundits of the media .... of both sides. Have you noticed the new quickie ad MSNBC is running featuring the "Rev" Al? He's reciting part of the Pledge of Allegiance, " ..... One nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." "Under God" is still officially part of the pledge, although there are those who want it removed. So, the "Rev" is helping lead the cause. |

"Under God" is still officially part of the pledge, although there are those who want it removed. So, the "Rev" is helping lead the cause. I see Warren as a moderate Democrat. As I said, I have friends who by today's standard would be consider "far lefties," but by the standards of the 60's and early 70's would have been moderates. Hell, my mother was a lifelong Republican who for years was a minor functionary in the local party but by today's standards would probably be considered a commie. Getting rid of the "under God" phrase isn't particularly leftie. It's more like an effort to keep state and religion separate. Heck, it's not like the pledge goes back to the founding fathers: the pledge wasn't even the official pledge until 1942, and the "under god" bit wasn't shoved in until the mid 1950's. I like the modern "Rev. Al" a lot better than I liked the older model. He's matured a lot. I also appreciate the fact that MSNBC has no problem putting a host on the air who sometimes struggles with pronouncing some of the words he uses. It shows a bit of humanity. The Rev's heart is in the right place, and, as my wife says, "He's the sharpest dresser on TV!" |
