I choose not to live in paranoia. How far do you live from Orlando? My wife has a convention down there in June. She's flying down and I'm bringing the trailer to meet up with her at the Disneyland park when her convention is over. Salmonbait John, I am near Ft Myers, that is about 4 hours from Orlando but if you want to come by we can have a beer and maybe a boat ride. May do so. My wife wants us to leave two days before her four-day convention starts. That leaves me sitting in a campground for four days. Don't think that's going to happen, but if it does I'll give you a call. Give Tim permission to give me your number next time you talk to him. Salmonbait 239 992 4005 It's in the book If you do decide to go to Disney World and stay a night or two, don't forget "Shades of Green" It is the veterans only hotel, much cheaper than regular Disney and most the staff is ex-GI too so the service is great. You just need a DD214 or a DoD ID (active or retired) If I go, it'll be with the 5th wheel and we'll be staying at the Disney 'Fort Wilderness' campground. My wife's wanted to stay there ever since we started this camping stuff. Salmonbait -- "That's not a baby kicking, dear Bride, it's just a fetus!" |

Wayne has a nicer boat but if you want the jungle cruise through the mangroves you have to go with me. ;-) Either way maybe we can hook up for lunch at Doc Fords or something. Decisions, decisions. Thanks for the number. I sent an email. Salmonbait -- "That's not a baby kicking, dear Bride, it's just a fetus!" |

I have had an online presence for over 25 years and Asshole is the closest to a stalker I have ever encountered. I still have no fear that he will ever show up at my house. So, again, that means that it can't happen? I might get hit by a meteor too but I am not going to let it dominate my life. It's all about odds, do you really think that the odds are the same of you getting hit by a meteor as somebody stealing your data etc. because you were dumb enough to give out personal information on the internet for everyone to see? What data? My name? Have you ever looked at how much information about you is in public records all over the internet? If I would worry about a stalker, it would be someone a lot closer to me than an anonymous person on the internet who may be 2000 miles away. It may surprise you but I am just as outspoken in the local paper as I am here and they require a real name. Recently I have just been taking pictures that they have published although I am scheduled for an interview about my water monitoring. Name, then address, then everything. Stalking has very little to do with it. I don't guess you realize this but every day, hell, probably every few seconds, someone is the victim of ID theft and the like. http://crime.about.com/od/identity/a/top_ten_ways.htm Very first top ten ways thieves get your identity? Yep, on the internet. I've given several examples of why it's a bad idea to give ANY of your personal information (including your real name) to anyone in the world that has internet access. So, here you go, please show me one bit of data or an article that suggests that it's a prudent and good idea to give out your name or any personal information via the internet. |

I always assume people are basically good and given the chance they can at least be civil, at best, be friends. I am usually the guy who dives in the middle of our little HOA squabbles and I can generally at least get a handshake and an agreement to peacefully disagree. . I avoid that. I will NEVER live in a subdivision that has an HOA. This is really the best of both worlds. It is an HOA with no deed restrictions or lien power. We basically enforce the dues with the ramp keys. You don't pay, you don't get a key. We still have about 90% participation. My neighbor lived in a subdivision not far away that had an HOA. One rule they had was that the garbage can could only be visible from the street on garbage day. Okay. Trouble is, his house sat up on a hill, the next street down ended at a cul-de-sac that, if you looked up, you could see the back of his house. Well some HOA member that thinks he's the Perry Mason of the subdivision sees his garbage can from the street below, and the result in a letter reprimanding him and threatening to fine him because the garbage can can be seen from the street. I have heard, seen and been a part of a bunch of ****ty HOA's. I don't care about having someone tell me what trees I can plant, how to plant them, what color mulch I can use, what color I can paint my shutters, or when to wash my car. Think as a homeowner you have a chance of arguing your case with the HOA? Good luck! http://tinyurl.com/aj3n7l8 Funny, many of the people who whine about their constitutional rights don't worry about them so much when they are members of an HOA! |

I doubt ID thieves are fishing for victims on rec.boats. It would make a lot more sense to go to the property appraiser's web site in any state. There is some real information there, particularly if you click the court clerk link on those property records. Then you get mortgage information, lien holders, banks etc. Again, I've given several examples and articles on why it is a bad idea to give out your name or other personal information on the internet. Please show me one article or example where it would be a prudent and intelligent thing to do so. |
