well the bills are starting to pour in for the salvage of my boat
after hurricane sandy.

the boat was up on blocks for winter storage when the storm hit. it
floated off the blocks and was recovered by seatow, which propped it
up against a house and put blocks under it to stabilize it.

the marina then moved it from there back to its original position.

i insepcted the boat 2 weeks ago and it appears to be in good shape
with no damage to prop shaft or rudder.

seatow bill: $150/ft. so that's about $4000. bill from the marina
$800. submitting to insurance....see what they'll pay.

You may be pleasantly surprised. Read your policy. Were/are you a member
of BoatUS? We lost our boat in July despite heroic efforts by TowBoatUS.
The insurance paid for the salvage efforts and the agreed value of the
boat, which was more than the boat's market value.

Good deal, and smart thinking.

If I may ask, what caused you to lose your boat? Storm?

Rocks and bad piloting, place we had been in to many times over 25 years
but this day we cut the corner a trifle short on an ebbing tide. TowBoatUS
was there within five minutes but it was too late.

Oh man. So sorry to hear about that. Even though the boat was a loss,
I take it that you and yours made it out safely.
