bill for boat salvage
well the bills are starting to pour in for the salvage of my boat
after hurricane sandy. the boat was up on blocks for winter storage when the storm hit. it floated off the blocks and was recovered by seatow, which propped it up against a house and put blocks under it to stabilize it. the marina then moved it from there back to its original position. i insepcted the boat 2 weeks ago and it appears to be in good shape with no damage to prop shaft or rudder. seatow bill: $150/ft. so that's about $4000. bill from the marina $800. submitting to insurance....see what they'll pay. |

Sounds like you really didn't do so badly. You still have a operational boat? |

Oh my, Bob. I knew you were bracing or it, but I didn't know if your craft survived the storm or not. I hope the ins. doesn't give you too much grief. Hope you can make an equitable settlement. Did you have any interior damage at least that you can tell? |

It can be a very nice worthy craft, but age won't help it's blue book. Just like a car. I bought my '23 ft. Marquis trailer an all for about $1300.00 . (a steal!). Boated with it for a year, and have now added another 1300.00 of accessories to it. Threres no way I could replace it with another used boat for triple the money. regardless of accessories. But to the insurance company, it's just another old boat that ain't worth much.... |

You may be pleasantly surprised. Read your policy. Were/are you a member of BoatUS? We lost our boat in July despite heroic efforts by TowBoatUS. The insurance paid for the salvage efforts and the agreed value of the boat, which was more than the boat's market value. Good deal, and smart thinking. If I may ask, what caused you to lose your boat? Storm? |

If I may ask, what caused you to lose your boat? Storm? Rocks and bad piloting, place we had been in to many times over 25 years but this day we cut the corner a trifle short on an ebbing tide. TowBoatUS was there within five minutes but it was too late. Oh man. So sorry to hear about that. Even though the boat was a loss, I take it that you and yours made it out safely. |

The water was only knee deep by the time we abandoned ship. Spent the night on a friend's boat while TowBoatUS conducted salvage operations. It took two tow boats with our boat slung between them and four pumps to get to a Travellift about a mile away. Even though she was for sale we really, really miss her. She was broken up and parted ourt. That's a damn shame. Sorry to hear about that, but glad you're all well! |
