Westsail 32s

Me--
Well, yes, you should do better than 4 knots in 20 knots of wind. The W32
is slow, but not THAT slow. I'm not sure what the hull speed is--Jax could
whip out his slide rule and tell you this in a flash--but 20 knots will
probably push the boat to that. The best I've ever done is 7.5 knots--beam
reaching with a single-reefed main, probably in about 20 knots. But my
sails are 28 years old, and I'm a long way from knowing all the nuances of
sail set and trim, so maybe hull speed is slightly more.

Yes, take in one of the rendezvous the West Sail Owner's Association
sponsors. Bud shows up as often as he can, and other owners delight in
proselytizing about their boats. Actually, WOA is sort of like a support
group....

Fair winds,

yes but only in the ny area, and not enough wind to get us going more than

4
knots (20 kts of wind)
(but I've been told by a friend is should go faster), p.s. I still really
like the westsail 32 but I'm haven't bought one, and I'd to get over to

Bud

John Vigor's book Twenty Small Sailboats to Take You Anywhere gives some
things to watch out for on this and other boats.

I am looking at a Westsail 32 to sail between the islands of Hawaii and on
Kaneohe Bay, Oahu. Does anyone know the pros and cons of Westsail 32s?

What
weak points in construction should I be aware of? Thanks.
