Intelligence Study Links Low I.Q. To Prejudice, Racism, Conservatism

Are racists dumb? Do conservatives tend to be less intelligent than
liberals? A provocative new study from Brock University in Ontario
suggests the answer to both questions may be a qualified yes.

The study, published in Psychological Science, showed that people who
score low on I.Q. tests in childhood are more likely to develop
prejudiced beliefs and socially conservative politics in adulthood.

I.Q., or intelligence quotient, is a score determined by standardized
tests, but whether the tests truly reveal intelligence remains a topic
of hot debate among psychologists.

Dr. Gordon Hodson, a professor of psychology at the university and the
study's lead author, said the finding represented evidence of a vicious
cycle:

*People of low intelligence gravitate toward socially conservative
ideologies, which stress resistance to change and, in turn, prejudice,*
he told LiveScience.

Why might less intelligent people be drawn to conservative ideologies?
Because such ideologies feature "structure and order" that make it
easier to comprehend a complicated world, Dodson said. "Unfortunately,
many of these features can also contribute to prejudice," he added.

Dr. Brian Nosek, a University of Virginia psychologist, echoed those
sentiments.

"Reality is complicated and messy," he told The Huffington Post in an
email. "Ideologies get rid of the messiness and impose a simpler
solution. So, it may not be surprising that people with less cognitive
capacity will be attracted to simplifying ideologies."

John F. Kennedy had an IQ of 117 .... above average, but no Einstein
who had an IQ of 160.
Abraham Lincoln had an estimated IQ of 128.
Bill Clinton has an IQ of 137
George W. Bush has an IQ of 125
Adolph Hitler had an IQ of 141.

A high IQ has nothing to do with what a person is. A high IQ is
nothing to be particularly proud or boastful about. It' a gift at
birth.
It's what you do with the IQ that you have that qualifies and
classifies you as a person.

It's no wonder the conservative movement can appeal to the six-pack

Bumper sticker logic brings comfort to those who are uncomfortable

Intelligence Study Links Low I.Q. To Prejudice, Racism, Conservatism

Are racists dumb? Do conservatives tend to be less intelligent than
liberals? A provocative new study from Brock University in Ontario
suggests the answer to both questions may be a qualified yes.

The study, published in Psychological Science, showed that people
who
score low on I.Q. tests in childhood are more likely to develop
prejudiced beliefs and socially conservative politics in adulthood.

I.Q., or intelligence quotient, is a score determined by
standardized
tests, but whether the tests truly reveal intelligence remains a
topic
of hot debate among psychologists.

Dr. Gordon Hodson, a professor of psychology at the university and
the
study's lead author, said the finding represented evidence of a
vicious
cycle:

*People of low intelligence gravitate toward socially conservative
ideologies, which stress resistance to change and, in turn,
prejudice,*
he told LiveScience.

Why might less intelligent people be drawn to conservative
ideologies?
Because such ideologies feature "structure and order" that make it
easier to comprehend a complicated world, Dodson said.
"Unfortunately,
many of these features can also contribute to prejudice," he added.

Dr. Brian Nosek, a University of Virginia psychologist, echoed those
sentiments.

"Reality is complicated and messy," he told The Huffington Post in
an
email. "Ideologies get rid of the messiness and impose a simpler
solution. So, it may not be surprising that people with less
cognitive
capacity will be attracted to simplifying ideologies."

John F. Kennedy had an IQ of 117 .... above average, but no

who had an IQ of 160.
Abraham Lincoln had an estimated IQ of 128.

nothing

It's no wonder the conservative movement can appeal to the six-pack

Bumper sticker logic brings comfort to those who are uncomfortable

Seems as if there are a lot more dumb Democrats than Republicans. Just from

I've seen people with barely average IQ's accomplish some great
things.
They just work harder at it.

Without a doubt, and plenty of people with above average IQs squander
the gift. But the vast majority of those on the IQ bell curve remain
true to their ability to comprehend, store information and synthesize
ideas and plans.

Those on the lower end of the curse are trapped by an inability to
deal well with complexity and therefore gravitate towards simple
answers as a way to gain comfort and peace.

Will Rogers had it right when he said "If stupidity got us into this
mess, why can't it get us out."

Given the institutional racism that's existed in this country for

The butterfly ballot was much ado about nothing. They gave it to a
class of second graders and they figured it out with no problems.
(using fictional candidates)
It is even questionable that anyone was actually confused.
3200 people punched Buchanan, about a third of the number of people
who voted for him in the primary, with far fewer people voting in the
primary and a single page ballot.
There was absolutely zero difference for the counter. That 3505 card
reader just read it like any other punch card and when they held it up
to manually count it, they were just looking at the hole.

The people are allegedly being disenfranchised by complicated
procedures. It would be less intelligent people baffled by that
wouldn't it?

BTW that evil plot to steal Gore votes was perpetrated by a
Democratically run election board. (Palm Beach is a very "blue"
county) Were they scheming or just dumb?

They were trying to cheat any way they could. I am sure Ohio will be
ripe with cheating this time around.. Look for more vote buying and
Mickey Mouse living on every block..

It just seems to be Democrats.

In Palm Beach County the butterfly ballot baffled old white people.

The butterfly ballot baffled a lot of people, from voters to vote
counters, and it was easy to see why.

Those being disenfranchised by white Republicans tend to be older,
poorer, and minorities.

You're sure? What the hell do you know about election procedures in
Ohio? Answer? Nothing.

---------------------------------------------------------

John F. Kennedy had an IQ of 117 .... above average, but no
Einstein
who had an IQ of 160.
Abraham Lincoln had an estimated IQ of 128.
Bill Clinton has an IQ of 137
George W. Bush has an IQ of 125
Adolph Hitler had an IQ of 141.

A high IQ has nothing to do with what a person is. A high IQ is
nothing
to be particularly proud or boastful about. It' a gift at birth.
It's what you do with the IQ that you have that qualifies and

The study wasn't about "high" or "low" IQ tests but a correlation
between "people who score low on I.Q. tests in childhood are more
likely to develop prejudiced beliefs and socially conservative
politics
in adulthood."

--------------------------------------------

I understand that. I was not commenting on the study you cited. I
was commenting on those who think they are superior in some way
because they were gifted with a higher than average IQ. First of
all, they didn't earn it and second of all not all put it to
productive use.

It's no wonder the conservative movement can appeal to the six-pack
and fundy communities, who gravitate towards simple lifestyles and
simple answers.

Bumper sticker logic brings comfort to those who are uncomfortable

Huh? As to institutional racism. there has been discrimination against,
Blacks, Irish, Mormon's were officially allowed to be killed with no

reverse racism. Can not get a job if white, college educated, but a lesser

They don't have to depend on voter fraud. Has happened. Most likely why
JFK became POTUS. But the problem is that people have learned they can
vote themselves money from the rest of the people. Forget the person who
said that would be the end of Democracy. Are problem is we have decided to
dumb down the population and people are not required to work for a nice
life. Only country in the world where the poor are fat and get a car and
color TV and cellphone. We have priced ourselves out of the manufacturing
game, and for the last 30 years have borrowed money and sent it mostly to
Asia buying their crap. Go to a fast food restaurant and after the kid
rings up the bill add a couple cents to round out the change to an even
number. The kid will brain freeze most likely. Unless it is some Mexican
kid who has had to learn to survive. Our schools are run by the department
of Education. What a disaster! 40-75% dropout rates, graduates that can
not read their diplomas. How are we to be competitive? My industry was
High Tech. Lots of underemployed American Engineers. Because the
government with even a 10% unemployment rate, is still issuing 180,000 H-1
visas a year. Keeps the salaries down in engineering jobs.

Who would have thought I was in Bill Clintons class of smart?

Bill Clinton may have had a high IQ but he was pretty stupid.
Did he really think any of his lies would hold?
For that matter how smart are you if you are sticking your pecker in
girls around the office?

Still obsessed with Bill's sex life, eh?

The issue was how smart he was supposed to be. That was dumb.
It will also be his legacy

Harry knows better than to discuss an issue and lose. He persists in changing it to a personal
attack.... and losing.

Harry is flailing away at everybody these days. I wonder what's wrong
with him?

Seems as if there are a lot more dumb Democrats than Republicans.

They do seem to have more trouble navigating a complex ballot, finding
their polling place and having a good enough job to have an ID with a
picture on it.

You talking about the folks who've experience 200 years of
institutionalized racism who are easily identified as different from
white?

Why is everything racial with you and Harry. Who is the racist here?

Are you really saying this lack of cognitive skill is racially based?
It just seems to be Democrats.

In Palm Beach County the butterfly ballot baffled old white people.

The butterfly ballot baffled a lot of people, from voters to vote
counters, and it was easy to see why.

Those being disenfranchised by white Republicans tend to be older,
poorer, and minorities.

Once again, insane **** from your head. I'm betting you have absolutely
NO evidence of any of that, correct?

Perhaps such a study wasn't needed, since we already knew the answer,
eh?

Dr. Gordon Hodson, a professor of psychology at the university and the
study's lead author, said the finding represented evidence of a
vicious
cycle:

*People of low intelligence gravitate toward socially conservative
ideologies, which stress resistance to change and, in turn,
prejudice,*
he told LiveScience.

---------------------------------------------------------

John F. Kennedy had an IQ of 117 .... above average, but no Einstein
who had an IQ of 160.

Once again, as Eisboch was talking about, an IQ doesn't necessarily make
one "smart".
