Kindle Fire Users?

I have to buy a gift for a friend whose birthday is coming up soon. The
friend is *not* into computers, iPads, iPhones, et cetera, but is
interested in something relatively easy to use to read books, "surf,"
play music, especially something to take on trips for a little
entertainment on the airplane.

The Kindle Fire seems ideal for this. The only shortcoming I see is that
it is limited to WiFi reception, although with hotspots popping up
everywhere, this seems less of an issue than it might have been a year
or two ago.

I've never actually seen a Kindle Fire. Anyone have one? Opinions of
those who actually have used one...

My wife is the "reader" person here and she says, buy a real tablet.
She looked at all of these things before she bought a Levano for our
daughter.

Buy a "real tablet" instead of a Kindle because...?

I have a tablet so I have some familiarity with that genre, but what's
good-bad-indifferent about a Kindle Fire?

She says the web implementation is not that good, the memory was
limited and not all Android aps run.
I suppose they may have fixed some of these things since December but
that was what it was then.

Ahh, thanks.
