My favorite was the Wisconsin teachers had to buy health insurance form a Wisconsin Teachers Union health insurance front company which increased the cost of insurance by 30 or 40 percent. |

Let's see some data. When the union boss' live a lavish lifestyle off the backs of the guys working on the job site it makes you wonder what the difference is between a union boss and a CEO is? One difference is that you don't have what it takes mentally or experientially to work a skilled job at a union job site *or* be a union boss. The real difference is that most leaders of international unions have comp packages in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, not in the millions of dollars in many CEO comp packages. Many, many years ago, when I was just a kid cleaning the boats in my father's showroom on a Saturday, my dad was talking to a friend who happened to be the local Teamsters Union business agent. The agent drove a new black Cadillac every year. I asked my father about that, and he told me the members of the business agent's local insisted he do that, so that when he visited employers, the employers would know right away that the business agent was fully supported by the union members, and they expected him to dress well and drive well to help demonstrate his "formidability," as it were. I heard that explanation repeated several times when I worked with one of the IBT locals in Detroit and with the IBT international in Washington, D.C. |
