It was sticking to the greens at Twin Lakes Golf Course in Clifton. Putting became a much bigger
challenge. Luckily we were just finishing 17 when it started coming down fast.

We had a light dusting overnight after a beautiful sunny Sunday
It was so nice yesterday that I took my Springer Spaniel down to
Lawrencetown beach. There were about 3 dozen surfers taking advantage
of the mild 40F temperatures and one of the surfers said, the water
was about the same... 5C.
Wish I had taken this Playbook along to test the HD video.

I've got a good inch on my back deck now. I believe this was a big surprise. TWC is still calling

It's just beginning to stick here. Usually it is a tad warmer here
because of the heat loss from the Bay.

It's called an Airmar PB150 and it comes with software called
Weathercaster. It is marketed by Furuno and designed for boats but
would make a fine home unit except that it lacks a rain gauge. One
of the unique things about the Airmar sensor is that it has no moving
parts - it reads wind speed and direction using ultrasonic doppler
sensors.

The sensor unit is a bit pricey but it also contains a GPS unit and
electronic compass which allows it to compute true wind speed and true
wind direction on a moving boat.

Last year there were several boats sunk and many boats damaged by structures caving - all from a
heavy snow fall. Any snow makes us think about checking on the boat, especially the heavy wet stuff.

We're really "high tech" here. :) I have an outdoor wireless temp and
humidity sensor whose results I can read on a stand-alone indoor unit.
If I need more than that, I just click on the "Weather Page" on my
iPhone or on the desktop computer. I can usually tell if it is raining
or snowing by...(you might want to write this down)...looking out the
window.

At the moment, we have something called "Freezing Fog" as our weather.

Never had one. They have 'em there? We may make the chili thing a tradition. At $4.95 it's a steal.
On Wednesdays they have a chicken wing special. So, I'm thinking of going in at about 11;30 PM on

Oh, it's very nice. It's a pretty plain family style restaurant. The
food is good, especially the pho, which I really like, and it is

If you folks had saved some money when you were young, you could afford a decent rain gauge. This
one has lasted a long time, is quite accurate (mostly), and adds immeasurably to the decor:

As you can see, the recent snowfall yield was about 1/32d of an inch.

I've actually never seen that term before.

Well, weather study is a hobby of mine. I'm fascinated with how much a
REAL meteorologist has had to learn. I'm not talking about the weather
fluff on your local TV station, either.

LOL!

Here's another way to tell if it's been raining. Buy a dog that likes mud.

This is a very strange television market for "news." While we are in a
suburb of DC, we're far enough out so that whatever local news we have
rarely makes it onto one of the DC local news shows. In fact, I only
remember us "making" the local TV news twice: once when one of the
reactors at the local nuke plant "tripped, and the other time when
former president Dubya went bike-riding down here. We don't really have
much "news" out here, which is one of the reasons why we like our area
so much. Compared to Fairfax, Montgomery, PG Counties, we're sleepyville.

So, we rarely watch the local TV news and therefore rarely see the local
TV weather. The Weather Channel on cable, my smartphone or the computer
is sufficient for our needs, and just as inaccurate as the local TV
weather guys/gals.

Good place for it.

Snow is how we compensate for not having lots of Burmese pythons,
alligators, Palmetto bugs, snowbirds, and crackers. :)
You have snowbirds eight months out of the year. What's a cracker?

Something you eat with chili. Speaking of chili, we ate at Hard Times Cafe tonight. Their Texas
Chile (wet) is pretty good eating. Bought a box of the mix, which they say is as good as the stuff
they sell in house. We'll see.

We ate at Saigon City Restaurant, near Springfield Mall.

...and....?

Oh, it's very nice. It's a pretty plain family style restaurant. The
food is good, especially the pho, which I really like, and it is
relatively inexpensive. My wife gets a pork dish, which is delicious,
but I don't recall the name of it. You might want to go there for lunch
sometimes.

http://www.yelp.com/biz/saigon-city-...nt-springfield

If you go another block, on the other side of the street, is a Mexican place called El Paso. Great
food.

http://www.yelp.com/biz/el-paso-mexi...nt-springfield

I'll have to try the Vietnamese place once. I've never been in a US version of a Saigon restaurant.
Been to a bunch of Saigon versions though!
