Apparently you two have taste buds that crave slumgullion.

Good place for it.

Snow is how we compensate for not having lots of Burmese pythons,
alligators, Palmetto bugs, snowbirds, and crackers. :)
You have snowbirds eight months out of the year. What's a cracker?

Something you eat with chili. Speaking of chili, we ate at Hard Times Cafe tonight. Their Texas
Chile (wet) is pretty good eating. Bought a box of the mix, which they say is as good as the stuff
they sell in house. We'll see.

We ate at Saigon City Restaurant, near Springfield Mall.

...and....?

If you go another block, on the other side of the street, is a Mexican place called El Paso. Great
food.

I'll have to try the Vietnamese place once. I've never been in a US version of a Saigon restaurant.
Been to a bunch of Saigon versions though!

I've been to El Paso more than once, and your assessment is correct. The
Vietnamese restaurant is pretty good. We usually stop there after
visiting our dentist in Annandale. The Chinese restaurant closer to you,
the Magic Wok on Franconia, is pretty good, too.

Never had one.

I had fried pickles in North Carolina last fall on our trip south
(boating related).

Deeelicious !

Would never had tried it but a friend recommended them highly.

We've had the pleasure of having a real meteorologist on the boat a
few times while providing support for sailing regattas. I always
enjoy talking to him about the tools and data sources that he uses.
One thing he relies on a lot for localized wind forecasts is weather
baloon data, particularly at around 3,000 feet of elevation. It
turns out that the wind speed and direction aloft eventually affects
the surface winds as the day progresses and things warm up. As the
surface air warms, it convects upward and mixes with the wind at
higher altitudes. That is the reason afternoon breezes are generally
stronger than in the early morning.

A good source for amateur forecasters is the downloadable GFS forecast
model data. I use a free software package called "ViewFax" which can
create customized weather models on your PC in highly understandable
graphical format - much better than anything you will ever see on
television. It is very easy to see the weather systems develop and
gain an understanding of what is driving them.

I first had them at a restaurant in Natchez, MS called Cock of the Walk.
Some mighty fine catfish from there, too! Natches is a beautiful little
city!

For Chinese we go to House of Dynasty on Telegraph Rd. I've had take out from the Magic Wok and
thought it way too greasy. But, that was only one time. They may have had a beginner doing the
grease work.

Americanized Chinese food tends to be quite greasy! Now if you go to
Clement St. in San Francisco, you get the real deal!
