I do keep my old technology lawn mower, lawn tractor, chain saw and string trimmer running properly. That's the difference. I have experience with engines, plumbing, electrical, etc, etc.... I do a lot of work myself. I do the research first so I understand the system, then I go fix it. My middle daughter did all of the fiberglass work on the first boat I ever built, my 17 year old just did the top end, valves, timing chain, piston, rings, surclip, shims (using the micrometer) and rebuilt her own race engine. It has been a one kick motor for almost 30 engine hours since then... I have the tools, I have the internet. I asked here to get pointed in the right direction, you have nothing to add, so go to ****ing hell and keep hiding in your basement with nothing but unclever one liners and your delusions of grandeur... I have met two guys in the last few weeks who have inspired me. Sunday my daughter did a few laps with Doug Henry. I watched him come off the track and pull up to the trailer, lean the bike with the big roll cage, unstrap one leg after another and move them the to wheelchair, pull himself over to it, and roll off the trailer. All the time his kid (who does not ride) was doing bicycle wheelies around the parking lot. Yesterday I was walking by a guy on the track and he called me over. I didn't recognize him but I went over to him. As I drew closer I said Jeeze Mike, you lost weight? He said no, I am dying... He is 49, has a kid ready to go pro, and a wife and a 10 year old daughter. He has maybe 6 mos to two years. He was out there laughing and training his son like nothing was going on at all... Folks like this are why I will never live like you Harry. When I tweak the furnace, my kids and wife will be there and understand too. They can hook up the generator, change the oil in it, wash the air filters. They can change tires, or even a carburator, they can handle the nail gun to fix a roof and know how to use hot tar, they can repair an electric fence and start an excavator and probably dig a bit of a hole.... And if like Mike I don't last a whole lot longer, my wife and kids will be able to run things just fine. How is your wife gonna' do changing the oil on that new generator, or pulling a leaf out of the intake if you are down, sick, or the best possibility, dead? Yeah, didn't think so.... |

It just seems crazy to put your family in jeopardy by messing around with something you know little about. When I lived in Connecticut, home heating oil delivered typically by independent contractors was the fuel of choice, whether the heating system was forced hot air or liquid-heated radiators. In either case, if adjustments were needed, the fuel contractor sent someone around to "tune up" the system, and at no additional cost to the homeowner. I imagine that hasn't changed, since the suppliers of the fuel want happy customers, especially in today's market of very high fuel costs. I don't understand the arrogance of "do it yourselfers" who think they have or can easily get the expertise needed to handle tasks that require specific expertise they might not have or can readily get, especially when help is available at little or no cost. Better sit down for this Harry old boy. I substantially agree with you on the topic of heating system maintenance. However, your comment about "do it yourselfers" reveals that you don't understand the concept of "do it yourself" and/or some of the reasons we do it. Your problem is that you can't figure things out so you hire someone to do it for you. Actually, for you, that's the smart thing to do. For others who have the curiosity, desire, and confidence to try new things, "do it yourself" can be quite rewarding. You have to understand your limits though. Arrogance is thinking everyone should strive to be like you. Toodles Mr. Pufferfish -- 1-20-13 The end of an error |

I don't pay attention to the Harry/Plum clone... she doesn't have any answers anyway. Her answers were better than your questions. Yeah, you would say that. You think a non-answer insult is an "answer"!? LOL! I think your "comments" on global warming and many other issues either are or border on idiotic. As to your home heating problem, I have no comment beyond saying I'd call in someone who knows about these systems intimately rather than depend upon conflicting advice from a newsgroup. When I was getting specs and bids for the new genny system here, the best advice on placing the generator came from the field technician (a licensed plumber) from the company from which we buy our LP gas, and the consultation didn't cost me a dime. His advice resulted in a cost savings of nearly $2000. I am just trying to tweak my system.. Once I understand the principal, I will be able to the same way I diagnosed cars.. You will never understand Harry, you obviously should stick to paying others to do your work for you... There aren't a lot of magic tweeks. The one tweek I didn't mention before is change the filter and adjust the flame. You might want to hire a HVAC guy to do that. -- 1-20-13 The end of an error |
