Default shipping a kayak

I have heard that it's possible to ship a small kayak for $50 - $75, but
I don't know how to go about it. Does UPS or FED-EX handle them, or do
I need to go to a motor freight company (such as.....????).

Sue,

Hopefully there is a Forward Air counter located near you. Check
www.forwardair.com and see if you can find a location that works for you.

Cheers

DV

Generally you'll ship via Forward Air or an airline's cargo division. Delta
Cargo, Southwest, etc. This is a "drop off at airport, pick up from
airport" kinda thing.

Another possible lead that you may want to check out is the company that QCC
kayaks uses to ship their kayaks to buyers. Their shipping information web
page is:
http://www.qcckayaks.com/shipping.asp
It seems to me that somehow packaging, or protecting the kayak from
potential shipping damage would be as big a problem as finding a shipper!

It's worth checking out but an individual might not be able to get as good a
deal as QCC. There may be some volume pricing involved there. As far as
packing goes, it depends on the kayak and the material. I bought a used
Poly WW kayak and it was shipped to me via forwardair. The seller just
wrapped the middle of the kayak with pallet wrap to protect the cockpit.
The rest of the boat was "nude". Since it was used, it had plenty of
scratches on it already.

Other posts recommend ForwardAir (I agree). I have also had good results
with RoadwayExpress (website).
