Anyone own waterproof binoculars they really like?
I am seeking a pair at least a 10x zoom.

Yes, I have an excellent pair of waterproof binoculars. Unfortunately,
they don't float and are currently sitting at the bottom of Tobin Harbor
on Isle Royale.

Maybe floatability is more important than waterproof....

the binoculars I have are not waterproof and do not float, but they came
with this ingenious strap feature that goes around one's neck ......

Yes, I have an excellent pair of waterproof binoculars.

What were they?

Maybe floatability is more important than waterproof....

Well, it would seem to be a rather trivial matter to attach something to
the strap that would allow them to float...

This is a topic that comes up now and again and elicits a broad
range of responses. The main debate centres on how much money
should be spent. Personally, I find that an inexpensive pair
of waterproof binocs is fine _for what I want_, while others
insist that only the very expensive binocs are suitable (since
they have outstanding optics).

If you want them for their optics, you've got several high-end
brands to choose from. If you prefer something you aren't going
to cry over if you loose them, there are also several brands.
I have an old pair of Bushnell binocs - 8x24 - that are fine.
There are newer models that are comparable. Advantages a
cheap, compact.

I am seeking a pair at least a 10x zoom.

But not for on-water use, I assume? You won't be able to steady
anything much higher than 8x unless you get image stabilized
(which are not waterproof that I've ever seen).

Let's see...
o drive 600 miles to Copper Harbor
o catch the ferry to Isle Royal
o rent a canoe
o try to locate my binoculars at the bottom of the harbor
o dive for them
o attach floatation device

Doesn't sound so trivial to me...

Oh, do you mean I should have done this *before* I lost them overboard?

Yes, I've heard this before, but I use 10x (only water resistant) right
now and have no problem stabilizing the image. However, I do only tend
to paddle on very calm water.

Although, I might also recommend an underwater digital camera so that
the images could be processed later by a computer designed to seek out
those binoculars.
