While canoeing on a local lake, I went ashore in thick brush. When I
got back to the boat, I felt a crawly feeling all over my legs but saw nothing. Looked closer until I saw thousands of tiny tick-like bugs, WTF? Finally recognized em as something I had not seen since childhood, REDBUGS, or chiggers. For some reason, me and all my sisters were immune to them and we'd chase the other neighborhood kids with handfulls of Spanish Moss saying "the redbugs are gonna getcha" not really believing they even existed until one of the other kids pointed them out. However, they never bothered my family and I never gave em any thought until yesterday. WTF is all this itching, poison ivy? Nah, separate bumps each looking like a fireant bite. Showed a friend who said, "Thats a nasty case of chigger bites ya got". I was stunned. I've lost my immunity to em? I look like a bad case of measles and they itch like hell. Am I gonna have to slather on the deet now these things finally like me? |
