Hey guys, listen up for a minute.

Do you really think it's appropriate to drag someone's wife or other
family member into the so called discussions here?

The only thing that any of us know for sure about Harry's wife is that
she is married to a loser. That should be burden enough for her.

In all seriousness I'd like to see everyone knock it off. It's just
not the right thing to do.

And yes, I know, I know, I really do, so don't dredge up the past.
It's all out there and we all know where to find it.

Two wrongs does not make a right however, and some of you do know
better.

Well, you haven't condemned anyone on the right from calling me all
sorts of vile things, so I guess it is ok with you?

I'm willing to stop calling Knuckles a moron if you think it'll help?

Damn, I didn't know that. That explains a lot of the problems with our infrastructure. Maybe we
should give union workers more money.

Might be true, but I suspect it isn't and you are just trolling,
otherwise you would have mentioned a source.

Look at the abstract of the new Doctor's dissertation. Are you calling
her misinformed, or worse, a liar like her husband.

Sadly, substance abuse is far worse among non-unionized construction
workers, most of whom work on projects where employees are not subject
to random drug tests.

It has been known for many years that a substantial percentage of
construction workers abuse substances. A lot but not all of this is a
result of a need to self-medicate. Construction workers sustain a lot of
back, leg, muscular type injuries during their work years, and these
take a toll. For some workers, self-medication becomes the only avenue
for pain relief. This is not a country where an injured worker gets
adequate compensation for work-related injuries and illnesses, or even
reasonable access to retraining.

The purpose of my wife's research was not to point out that construction
workers abuse substances, but to explore the barriers they encounter to
seeking proper treatment for their abuse problems. It is one hell of a
document, and is being considered for publication in a professional journal.

Now, about your wife's educational and professional accomplishments,
flajim...Are there any?

Absolutely EVERY article submitted to any journal is considered for
publication. If I submitted this post to any journal it would be
"considered" for publication. It would be **** canned and never would
be published, but it would be considered.

Your wife gets a PhD from a 3rd rate college and you think it is
"special". Does Karen Grear know you were so ashamed of her, that you
had to make up an imaginary career for her to boast your bruised ego?
While you used to pretend she was a Medical Doctor, she was really a
social worker. Now that she has a degree from a 3rd rate college, you
have to pretend that she is an intellectual powerhouse. If your wife
was half as intelligent as you like to pretend, she would have gotten
her PhD from Georgetown. Such shame, but I guess it is better than
getting your undergrad degree from Univ. of Kansas.

What are you going to do now that we all know that your wife is
overweight, has 3 chins, is old and really would not be considered
beautiful (or even cute) by anyone?

It is from Harry's wife ( Karen Grear) dissertation.

In case you can't find the link, here is the abstract. It really isn't
impressive, but what the heck, it is a dissertation from a 3rd rate school

credit for this abstract should go to Karen Grear of Huntington, MD.
"The Impact of Perceived Self-Control Over Treatment Access, Appraisal
of the Consequences of Substance Use, Self-Reliant Attitude Against
Help-Seeking and Perception of Workplace Culture on the Behavioral
Intention to Seek Treatment for Substance Abuse Among Union Construction
Workers
Dr. Karen Grear
Social workers are familiar with the personal, familial and societal
costs of untreated substance abuse. However, more than 95 percent of
adults who suffer from substance use disorders fail to connect either
with professional treatment services or support groups such as
Alcoholics Anonymous. When compared to any other occupation, union
construction workers demonstrate among the highest heavy alcohol and
illicit drug use. In addition, they have a centuries-old organizational
culture that promotes substance abuse and discourages help-seeking.
Research indicates a variety of practical and psychological barriers
impede treatment access. Less understood is the role of individual
attitudes towards seeking help and the appraisal of the negative
consequences of substance use. The purpose of this study was to test a
conceptual model explaining behavioral intention to seek help for
substance use disorders in male union construction workers referred to a
union Member Assistance Program. The overarching theoretical framework
for this study utilized Ajzen’s theory of planned behavior, Bandura’s
social cognitive theory, and Prochaska and DiClemente’s transtheoretical
model of change. Multiple regression analyses tested the impact of the
predictor variables along three stages of the behavioral change
continuum. While the analysis demonstrated that sets of five of the
predictors had a significant impact on one or more of the stages, the
single most important finding was that appraisal of the consequences of
substance abuse had the greatest effect on each of the three stages of
change and was the only predictor of the final stage of taking steps
towards change. This study will inform social workers and others to
understand the barriers to seeking help and to develop approaches that
will enhance the capacity of union construction workers to access and
make use of services."

Why do I doubt you'll be mentioning this next time you run into a
construction worker...

Herring, physically, looks like he could be knocked to the ground by a
passing feather. Remember those photos of thin, brittle-looking HIV
sufferers in the 1980's? Well, our boy Herring looks like one.

Just because you're such a fat, nasty smelly sort doesn't mean that
because someone is thin they frail. I'll bet he's in better physical
shape than you are.

I have seen John, he is definitely not too thin or does he look sickly.
I guess Harry is so used to seeing morbidly obese people (he looks at
himself and his wife all the time) that his perception is distorted.

Knowing the source, I certainly wouldn't waste a second of my time to
read it. However, it clearly shows that John was trolling for some of
Harry's love. You people are idiots.- Hide quoted text -

That is an excellent point, it really isn't worth reading. I doubt if
her adviser actually read the dissertation.
