This supposes "government" is a monolithic being capable of
understanding the above.

I'm sure it goes both ways but the Republicans are especially gifted
at timing their tin-ear hostage games in the most inopportune
situations.

Teaparty idiots don't understand the basic operations of our
government and think shutting it down is going to help us wrestle with
our demons.

Simple folk, the same ones that believe in "prayin' away the gay."
