Lenovo Group Limited (SEHK: 0992, OTCBB: LNVGY) (simplified Chinese: 联 想集团有限公司; pinyin: Liánxiǎng j*tuán yǒuxi*n gōngsī) is a Chinese multinational computer technology corporation. We announced an agreement with Lenovo that creates a powerful new leader in the PC industry. Lenovo will acquire IBM’s Personal Computing Division and create a new company that will bring the strengths of IBM’s legendary PC business together with those of Lenovo, that will employ 19,000 people and provide the widest range of PC products and technologies to businesses, worldwide. The agreement includes a broad-based, strategic marketing alliance under which Lenovo will receive sales and marketing support from IBM, and Lenovo’s products will be integrated into IBM Global Services offerings. Important for all customers of IBM to know: IBM will provide warranty service and support and financing and leasing options for PC products from the new Lenovo. IBM will take an ownership stake of 18.9 percent in Lenovo, and it will purchase PCs for its own employees from Lenovo as well. With this agreement, Lenovo becomes the world’s third-largest PC company and a key, strategic IBM business partner. Lenovo will have all of the strengths of IBM’s existing PC division, including research, development, design, and manufacturing capabilities. |

Hey... I personally use this laptop and found it very good. its all features are very good. Specially battery timing is reliable... I didn't comment on the quality of the Lenovo products, I commented on their place of manufacture. Some of us try to avoid purchasing finished products made in the People's Republic of China. It isn't easy, but it is possible. My Apple iMac has some PRC content, as does, I suppose, every other personal computer, but at least it was assembled elsewhere and has content from elsewhere. |

My first reaction is that it's a bit large and heavy for a travel computer but if you're not going to be carrying it around through airports and on planes that doesn't matter so much. It certainly has a lot of memory and power, coupled with a large screen. If you want a small lightweight laptop you'd probably be happier with on of the Dell Inspirons. I have one that I purchased several years ago for about $500 that is fully loaded with features like a built in GPS, television receiver and long life battery (about 5 hours). My only gripe with it is the relatively small screen size of about 10 inches but that's what makes it small and light. My boat laptops are Panasonic CF-29 Toughbooks that I purchased off-lease for around $350 each. They are practically armor plated but are definitely on the heavy side for a travel computer. There are some really funny Youtube videos about Toughbook laptops if you do a search. My favorite is the one where a guy complains that the screen is dirty so he takes it over to the sink and starts washing it under running water while he is still browsing the web. They are definitely good boat computers. |
