My first reaction is that it's a bit large and heavy for a travel computer but if you're not going to be carrying it around through airports and on planes that doesn't matter so much. It certainly has a lot of memory and power, coupled with a large screen. If you want a small lightweight laptop you'd probably be happier with on of the Dell Inspirons. I have one that I purchased several years ago for about $500 that is fully loaded with features like a built in GPS, television receiver and long life battery (about 5 hours). My only gripe with it is the relatively small screen size of about 10 inches but that's what makes it small and light. My boat laptops are Panasonic CF-29 Toughbooks that I purchased off-lease for around $350 each. They are practically armor plated but are definitely on the heavy side for a travel computer. There are some really funny Youtube videos about Toughbook laptops if you do a search. My favorite is the one where a guy complains that the screen is dirty so he takes it over to the sink and starts washing it under running water while he is still browsing the web. They are definitely good boat computers. |

Kind of heavy for a laptop if you are planning to carry it around. When you add in the power supply, you're probably close to nine pounds. |

I like the big screen, but I'm not happy about the battery life. I guess it takes a lot to power that screen. Usually I'll have a 120v socket nearby. Don't need it for the boat. We announced an agreement with Lenovo that creates a powerful new leader in the PC industry. Lenovo will acquire IBM’s Personal Computing Division and create a new company that will bring the strengths of IBM’s legendary PC business together with those of Lenovo, that will employ 19,000 people and provide the widest range of PC products and technologies to businesses, worldwide. The agreement includes a broad-based, strategic marketing alliance under which Lenovo will receive sales and marketing support from IBM, and Lenovo’s products will be integrated into IBM Global Services offerings. Important for all customers of IBM to know: IBM will provide warranty service and support and financing and leasing options for PC products from the new Lenovo. IBM will take an ownership stake of 18.9 percent in Lenovo, and it will purchase PCs for its own employees from Lenovo as well. With this agreement, Lenovo becomes the world’s third-largest PC company and a key, strategic IBM business partner. Lenovo will have all of the strengths of IBM’s existing PC division, including research, development, design, and manufacturing capabilities. |

Anyone ever heard of it? http://tinyurl.com/4xhpyk6- Lenovo makes good stuff.- Lenova used to be IBM before IBM sold them off.- Lenovo Group Limited (SEHK: 0992, OTCBB: LNVGY) (simplified Chinese: ? 想集团有?公?; pinyin: Liánxiǎng j*tuán yǒuxi*n g?ngsī) is a Chinese multinational computer technology corporation. Hey... I personally use this laptop and found it very good. its all features are very good. Specially battery timing is reliable... I didn't comment on the quality of the Lenovo products, I commented on their place of manufacture. Some of us try to avoid purchasing finished products made in the People's Republic of China. It isn't easy, but it is possible. My Apple iMac has some PRC content, as does, I suppose, every other personal computer, but at least it was assembled elsewhere and has content from elsewhere. Hacho en Mexico. Ole Ole. I expect the Chinese buy the components from Mexico, Taiwan, and themselves just like Dell, Apple, HP, etc. I can't understand why anyone pushing for a Chinese style government here would object to 'finished products' coming from China. You know Harry. Mr object to everything. It's not always in black or white as he would like it to be. I'm fascinated by the hypocrisy of righties, who claim to be anti-communist but drop their objections to communism when it comes to products manufactured in a communist country. I'll just bet that piggy slob of a broadcaster, Flush Limbaugh, smokes cuban communist cigars. Along with cuban viagra and oxycontin. |

If the computer is current, there's no way it'd be delivered with Vista. I've been using Win7 Pro for quite a while now, and I really like it. Very stable like XP Pro, and it's easier. It does take some getting used to but not like Vista. |

It's much lighter and faster than Vista and closer in stability to XP. I've been running 7 pro ultimate for about a year and find it very stable. |

Are they talking about Microsoft's infamous "upgrade to a more familiar version" (AKA removing Vista and installing XP). My wife had her vendor do that with all the new machines in her office that came with Vista. BTW Microsoft may not be enforcing that "you can't swap machines without calling us" thing on XP pro anymore. I just installed my retail XP pro that was on a machine that died into another one and expected I would have to call the 800 number, for the 3d degree before they would authenticate it (like the olden days) but it sailed right through the online okey dokey, passed the microsoft "legal OS" test and let me download the new media player. My wife's new desktop computer came with Win 7 and had a small amount of non-Microsoft Windows "crapware" on it, which I was able to remove without incident. There are a handful of varieties of Win 7, and you can upgrade from one to another by paying a fee, but I didn't see anything that let you downgrade from Win 7 to XP. |

No, I thought you meant that advertising crap that comes loaded on most new computers. I'm not too bright, as you can tell. The two I'm looking at now both have Windows 7. They are the one above and this one: http://tinyurl.com/3s8nrxw They're both the same price, but the Lenovo has a few more features, like Blu-Ray DVD, bigger hard drive, more RAM, one more USB port and a 5-in-1 card reader, and what appears to be a nicer keypad. A friend has a Lenovo he bought in 2007. Uses it in his garage. Loves it. I'm leaning that way. |
