Oci-One,
I e-mailed him as well, but also posted the answer here. Once I have a few minutes to spare I'll write up a trip report from the past weekend's Gentlemen's Paddling Weekend. We got out on a bunch of eastern shore cypress swamp creeks at flood, and paddled under the lunar eclipse as well. The Gent's trip - Good weekend, good paddling, good friends, good single barrel bourbon. |

I still read everything you two post. Last question I posted, I got
flamed by a troll. Made me gun shy. However, one of these days I'm going to go paddling with Mike. Single barrel bourbon and I know he's a coffee drinker. What else can you ask for? Eric PS Mike - the baby is now 14 weeks and likes getting her face wet in the water. After January we'll start with the swimming classes. Getting ready for the family paddle! Did you post on the MCC Paddle Prattle looking for advice on starting a boating program, or bringing a swif****er safety instructor to Charlottesville for a weekend, or sumpin' like that? Or am I just remembering enquiries you have made here on r.b.p? Isn't it pathetic, Mike, the way we keep hanging out at r.b.p, helplessly hoping that SOMEone, SOMEtime, will come back and start posting interesting messages, or, at the least, an uninteresting question that we can answer? big grin I could start trolling here, but I'm afraid no-one would take that seriously, including the trolls... I mean, even Dorian Merrill is evidently so bored here that he doesn't want to come back to read yer answer; he wants you to take the trouble to eMail it to him! Newsflash, Dorian: message traffic on r.b.p is so light these days that you could come back in a week and a half and yer thread would still be near the top of the list! O for a good troll to bash. I think someone suspected I had an accident in the program and was looking for something to CMA. I was looking for a canoe instructor at one point as well but I have mostly just posted on rbp. As for my job, UVa has an outdoor recreation program which is a part of the Intramural-Recreational Sports Department (who also maintains the fitness facilities, runs the flag football leagues, etc.) and that's the one that pays my salary. UVa also has a student-run Outdoors Club which is completely separate. UVa has contracted independent organizations which receive student funding but are not technically part of the university. But since our program is a part of the university, we enjoy all the privileges that entails such as liability coverage, monetary resources, etc. Overall, it's not a bad job and gives me a reason to go paddling on a work day every now and again instead of having to take the day off. You know the bumper sticker that says "a bad day on the river is better than a good day in the office" - well, for me sometimes the day on the river IS the day in the office. Eric |

She'll be big enough for a boat soon. I know for a fact that several paddler's kids had spent some time in a boat before they were that old. A German paddling buddy and her husband took her newborn on a canoe when the child wasn't that old yet. Another padding couple (with her being in her 6th or 7th month now) joined us this past Sunday, joking that the child needs to feel the effect of water so that it (dunno yet what sexe it will be) will also become a passionate paddler. :-) Before you know it she will be old enough to join you on most paddling trips!
