Mounting Flotation Bags

I want to install flotation bags in my Pungo. The blocks of foam in the
ends don't like they like would be much help in the event of overturning.
The bags have grommets in the corners. How do I go about attaching them to
the kayak so they won't simply come loose if I overturn?

You're correct, good thinking.

The easiest way to retain the bow bags would probably be to run a cord from one
foot peg rail to the other. You can clip or tie the bags to the cord, if
necessary. The seat back will retain the rear bag(s).

are you referring to long floatation bags which go outside along the
gunwale?

No, I don't mean sp*ns*ns. I'm referring to the triangular flotation
bags that go in the ends of the boat.
I was wondering whether there are some kind of glue-on D-rings that
would serve as attachment points for the bags.

if its a fibreglass hull you can sand a few bare spots on the inside and
glue some sort of rings on with epoxy.

pop rivets are used on fibreglass hulls but you have to consider
appearances. the fasteners on the outside of the hull are likely attached
with pop rivest. one possibility is drillign some out and siting rings on
the inside directly underneath and attaching the outside and inside
fasteners with the same rivets.

another possibility is to stick the bags in and wedge some flexible
or expandable material into the hull to keep them in place. tiny spring
loaded closet rods? a bit of flexible plastic electrical conduit?

Polyethylene is very difficult to bond anything to. Mechanical fasteners (screws, rivets) are the best way
to go on a poly boat.
