Probably not, too much wasted space, he wanted storage underneath, and
he wanted a forward lock. He should look at something like this:

May as well use the open space for decent storage.

My old Winner 24 had the seats on boxes and there was a lot of storage
space inside of each. * There was also a fold down foot rest on the
front of each box which was at a comfortable height. * You might be
able to get some low rise swivel seats which would be a nice touch.

Wayne, we're thinking of taking the pillars off the original seats and
putting swivels on them then mounting to the top of a box. only thing
is, I'm sure someone makes a 'locking' swivel out there, but just
gotta look for it. I suppose.

Yeah, that's the idea John, but that's gonna be too tall regardless of
how much of the assembly we don't use. I'm thinking on mounting the
sweats solid. No need for a swivel actually..

is park the boat and head immediately to a motel for shower, book
reading and HBO!

You might want to repost your question on "rec.boats.building".

There are still a few knowledgable guys who check in there once in a
while.

I was thinking that you might be able to adapt a small dock box but
prices have gone through the roof for them. Best bet is probably to
build something out of plywood if you or a buddy have cabinet making
skills.

Nice. Is that formica/laminate over plywood? Only problem with that
is sharp corners, something I try to avoid.

I noticed that too. No, I have a router and can make the edges 'dull'
I wouldn't want anything sharp like that. That's an inexcusable
hazard.

Before we talked about modified sine wave inverters I was thinking one
side for a cooler and the other side for a microwave, inverter, or
battery etc, but I think that an opposite side would be best equipped
for tools, wire ties tape, spare prop etc.

You know, Wayne, the REAL necessities.

RATS!!! Due to the enormously hot weather and extremely high humidity,
the glue on the waterproof carpet glue isn't curing as planned.
especially due to the high humidity, it's just kinda sitting there. Oh
it's curing OK, but a lot slower than expected.

Heres the stuff we're using:

http://www.menards.com/main/store/20...OCAX_B0963.jpg

This is kind of a set back due to other projects we could be doing on
the boat if the carpet was solid.

Oh well....

What did you decide about the seat base. I'd think building one would be pretty simple, if you had
the time. There used to be van conversion shops around which sold table tops, etc, etc. Seems
something like that might make a nice base for the seat, with some reinforcing, and would have
rounded corners. Maybe marine plywood with a coat of polyurethane would work, with appropriate
bracing of course.

Sorry about the glue.

We're planning on building storage boxes for the seats and mounting
the seats on a swivel. we'll see how that goes for one, and if it
seems to be a good deal, then I'll get another swivel for the other
side. If not,t hen we can always bolt them solid to the box. My
carpenter buddy is really prone to heat exhaustion, so he's taking on
some indoor work for people at the moment. If it cools down a bit like
it did today, we'll be back at making the boxes. I already picked up a
low-profile cooler like they have in the pic.
And will probably build out of outdoor plywood (DryPly) and carpet
over....

It'll come together....eventually

inch of rain and today is quite nice. Of course this weather isn't coming your way.

Today I get to sit in the dentist's chair for another root canal. Lots of shots in the roof of my
mouth. Gotta love it, especially the shot between the top teeth and the top lip. That's just a great
place to have a needle stuck in your body.

Gettin' old is such a joy.

Heres the stuff we're using:

Hopefully We can get the interior finished.I think we're supposed to
have cooler weather for the rest of the week... *At this venture low
humidity is what I need.

Well, at least you still have teeth to be rooted! I've had a shot on
that same place and it's a real winner! makes you feel like you

Glad you finally got some rain, John. then hopefully a cool front will

Well, the dentist couldn't do this one. That makes two attempts this week on different teeth.
Neither was successful. Go to a specialist Monday for *two* root canals.

But, I'd rather have a root canal than drive I-95 to Richmond on a Friday afternoon!

Oh, went to the orthopod guy today. No golf or frisbee throwing for at least a month. Crap, I'll
probably put on 30 lbs. Speaking of weight, how's it going. Haven't heard anything lately.

It's a 'tennis backhand' which is what starts 'tennis elbow' when not done properly. Apparently I've
not been throwing the damn frisbee properly either. Oh well. **** happens. I'll just have to add
about three miles to the dog's daily walks.

I looked at Overtons as well as about any other big chain marine store
and still didn't see what I'd like, so I guess it's plywood and
carpet. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

You could also consider some sort of vinyl wall covering instead of,
or in conjunction with carpeting.

Thanks Harry, but the dock boxes are way to big for the inside of my
boat. I was looking for boxes to hold a seat on top and possible a
cooler/ storage inside. that company in Australia makes some pretty
good looking stuff that is designed well, but I haven't sen much of
anyone who distributes their products in the US or a competitor that
makes those items here. I'm sure their out there, but I haven't found
them yet. and I've noticed on some other forums where people are

Thought about that too Wayne, But I think that carpet would be the
better idea. at least it would go uniform with the floor, and maybe
provide a bit of external insulation for the cooler container.

Yup, but for the corners I would cut down a 2x4 to square and glue the
plywood to the 2x4 frame with epoxy and a couple nails back from the
corners as far as possible. Once it set up, I would knock down the
corners to a nice 1 to 1 1/2 inch radius, then cover with carpet. The
carpet covering will cover any sloppiness with the electric planer or
belt sander making the corners...

any cooler I have ever had. I keep it in the shade, even in 90 degree

As to the 470 dollar boxes. I could build exactly what Tim wants for
about 100 bucks and three to four hours labor... If I were closer, I
would stop by on a weekend and have at it...

good looking stuff that is designed well, but I haven't sen much of
anyone who distributes their products in the US or a competitor that
makes those items here. I'm sure their out there, but I haven't found
them yet. and I've noticed on some other forums where people are
complain of the same search as well. So, it looks that we'll have to
make our own.

Nice thought though.

The aluminum jet boats use aluminum boxes. Unfortunately they are about
$400. You could ask your local sheet metal shop what they would charge to
bend the sheet and make one. Also, how about using a heavy duty cooler box.http://www.boatdepot.com/bdsearch.as...4994241?source...
Good ideas Bill, and taking all into consideration, but I think I'm
still leaning this direction minus the sharp edges, of course!

22 1/2 degree miters would look nice. And you'll be surpr4ised how much
softer those corners would look.

Too complicated and they would be covered with carpet anyway. I would
still just knock down a nice quarter round with an electric planer, or
belt sander with 36 grit. You could even do it with a good rasp in about
ten minutes;)

On the second thought, the 22.5 angles would look nice and could be done
quickly with a skill saw, wasn't thinking of that. Sorry...

You're forgiven.

Overtons?
I looked at Overtons as well as about any other big chain marine store
and still didn't see what I'd like, so I guess it's plywood and
carpet. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
Dock boxes...lots of different sizes...here's just one supplier

Thanks Harry, but the dock boxes are way to big for the inside of my
boat. I was looking for boxes to hold a seat on top and possible a
cooler/ storage inside. that company in Australia makes some pretty

it... ;) But, you are the mighty box figger er out er....
