A note to RPB users new and old
I'm probably preaching to the choir with most of the old guys, but here are a
couple of notes to some of the new people. Learn were your cap lock key is at and turn it off. All caps is considered rude when posting to news groups. Many newsgroups have a resident troll/sicko that screw things up for everyone else. Timmy is ours. He has been very restained with his posting this time, probably because he is running out of ISP's. Most of the traffic has been from people trying to reason/have witty exchanges with him. Don't reply. Leave him alone. Don't threaten (which is an actual crime) or abuse him. Just don't respond. If you take a unpopular topic, defend it unreasonably and rudely, and have your title in all caps, you're trolling. period. There are still a few of us old timers that are pretty flameproof and most of us (hi John) have refrained from flaming some of the more blatant trolls. If you are new to NG's, I might check up on Netiquette before continueing to post. SYOTR Larry C. |

Larry, this post of yours definately makes more sense than most of the others posts on this subject. I can't believe that after he's done so much damage on RBP in the past, there are still people stupid enough to reply (directly or indirectly) to Timmy. Oh, BTW.. I was wondering if you could possibly list those you consider stupid here so I can stop reading their posts? Scotty... |

There could be no one who is new to the group and does not know about Timmy and his spondoms (besides, newbies are supposed ot sit back and gaw at the news group pro's), there also could of course be no one with any use, comment, question, or legitimate concern about these things... just a bunch of stupid people we are. I don't expect anyone to set back and be in awe, but if you're going to join the game, it's only common courtesy to take the time to read the rules. Sponsons aren't new, neither is Timmy's ravings. All you have to do is do a google search and it's pretty easy to see that this clown has spammed this group a couple of times. But this time it isn't Tim that has continued to hammer this topic, but everyone trying to answer tims original reply even after the old timers told you what would be the response. No one in Officialdom takes him serious after about 15 minutes, so why bother. I don't believe that Wilko or I have ever said a word to anyone about any legitimate or reasonable topics, or even most unreasonable ones. I haven't even started flaming you for your unreasonable response reading things into the post that were not stated or implied. If you take the time to see what one wacko can do to a newsgroup, or several newsgroups, then you might understand our concern. I suggest a google search on Tim Ingram, Burnt Njal, and Mike Vanderman. Then come back and I'll discuss this with you. SYOTR Larry C. Oh, please... Don't expect me to do a full google on three or more topics, just to come and read a newsgroup. Personally I don't give a **** about Tim, Burnt, and Mike... or your precious bandwidth for that matter. Fact is, if you don't want to get into the conversation, stay the f*** out of it. Don't start another OT thread to trash those that are genuinely interested. Afterall, how many questions that are considered on topic today on this list have been addressed in depth before. So all the old guard should just post links to past posts or tell everyone that asks a question to go back and do the research. We need to take this ng back in make it only for trip reports, and I don't mean everyday reports, must be from exotic places and never mention the same place twice, afterall, it is all in the archives. I mean, if I put spondoms into google I might only have 5-600 posts to go through to get the answer to my question, or I might not find it at all. Really, if we go by your standard, we should all just stop posting and search the archives. Hey, another good idea is if we all go back to the old way before the internet and pay folks to spit out info a spoonfull at a time. The death of free speech, film at 11... There are some things where research is good. I have been doing research for almost two years working on my own personal cruiser and I could not design it without that research. But some things are better covered by just simply asking folks who have done something in the past or have specific ansewers to questions ready available... If I want info on kevlar or carbon fiber paddles, tensil strengh, manufacturing process, available colors, shipping costs, etc, I can to do research... of course it will be distributors and manufacturers I would be counting on for all of my information. I could spend a week and still not know if it will be the paddle for me. If I only want to know if others who use them like them, I can come to a news group, with one simple question and get a lot of answers from folks who have actually bought them. Sorry to invade your little camp with my questions and sarcasm, I will again go back to building and paddling. Scotty |

Yes, it is, it's sponsondork, laughing his head off at the chaos he has again managed to wreak in r.b.p. Oh, I see now. your just another asshole trolling for a little attention. If your interested in sponsons, why don't you just buy timmy's book and quite shooting your mouth off. If your too stupid, and you evidently are, to take some friendly advice, then how about following your own advice and stay out of the conversation. Again you prove my point in several ways. First you are again telling me if I want info to go pay someone for a book! Christ, if you can't contribute, or are just to lazy to contribute, just stay out of the conversation. And don't tell me to go buy a book you probably have not even read yourself. My rant was in response to an OG post which I felt to be a sarcastic remark pointed at someone I thought might be a new participant to the paddling group. I thought I would warn the fellow about rocking the OG boat here as it were. There is a small group of folks who seem to feel that rbp is kind of their territory and they get to set the agenda, the topics, and make the rules as to who has gone to far and who gets to rant on, what products or services are good and bad, and which ones rate nothing at all. They use it to strut and preen, set up personal trips, and many of them themselves have either started or been involved in depth in OT threads or even posted stuff for sale, however as they seem to share attitudes and lifestyles, they pretty much just sit back when this happens and pat each other on the back. Mind you, I am not saying they are assholes or anything, just that they might be a little aloof and miss things once in a while... like the rapidly changing face of the paddler and the internet news groups in general. Most times folks like this mean no harm, they just don't know any better and I can usually let that slide. Secondly, if you would bother to read my posts on spondoms, you would clearly see that I stated that I was against them, and I stated my reasons as clearly. Now I must suggest that you do what you have suggested I do, go and read the posts! (and you don't even have to pay for my insight… that's why I come here, to share and learn and you can take my advise for what you paid). Third, please stop whining so much. I read another post and you were crying to someone about "all caps" and "netiquette" and such, as if when I DO THIS IT REALLY HURTS YOUR EARS OR SOMETHING, what a priss. Are you also the one crying about spell checkers too? Like you can't figger out wat I meen heer? God, talk about someone who needs to "get a life"! When it comes down to it, the old rules of the internet, or "netiquette", are pretty much obsolete now in 2003. The internet is not just for scientists and educators any more, and you are certainly not the one who should be citing the "rules" (see point four). This is a newsgroup it is for idol conversation and general questions and answers about paddling and related topics, lighten up. I just want to communicate; I don't want to re-visit formal education. As far as the posting guidelines, you don't get to pick and choose the ones you wish to follow either, it seems you have not learned that yet. I've tried to remain civil, but dickheads like you **** me off. Your comments are just about as useful as tits on a boar hog. Get a ****ing life and leave the rest of us alone. Fourth is really a rehash of number 1. Again with the "my group attitude"!? **** you! It is not your newsgroup you arrogant little prick. And of course your blatant abuse of the netiquette with the use of curse words proves that you are not only an internet hero (keyboard coward) but a hypocrite to boot. In another post on this thread you suggest that you are flame proof (seems you may not have been quite honest in your bragging, reading the post I am responding to), in another you request folks have the "common courtesy" to read the related posts before chiming in to avoid looking "stupid" (see second point) and then you chime in here, uninformed. You have shown yourself to be a troll, a liar, a hypocrite, a coward, stupid, and a crybaby just in this one short thread, maybe it's time to go back to paddling. There, NOW I'm being insulting and belittling you and your abilities. You happy now. Not really, but I bet you feel real proud now.... Your hypocritical and uninformed rant did however slow me down for a few... I guess you have something to grin about today... pathetic.... SYOTR Larry And finally, as to your tone, my shop doors are always open, bitch! And when I get done with you I will pass you along to my dog... Scott Ingersoll SmallBoats.com |
