A combo of that, stupidity, and being poor.

Are you ranting about HAVING to use one of those new style, over-
priced-mercury-filled power-savers?

Yep, fleabagger greenies botched that good. What is better in city
dumps, mercury or tungsten?

Meanwhile Chinese did the real green thing, now inexpensive LED types
are coming to the market and they make the mercury ones look
inefficient. Last longer too. Chinese made of course and without
excessive carbon taxes.

--
Take a look at ANY country, more debt is more problems. So why do we
allow our governments more debt? Selfishness, greed, denial, ignorance?

And yet, the pricetag will be about $50 for one ****ing bulb. Clinton
and Gore sold this country to China for a few million in late, dirty
election money, lock stock and barrel...

The Gore variety perhaps.

But in Canada they are starting to show up in 3 packs for $16. LEDs are
not cheaper than mercury yet, but getting there. But then again, I bet
the Chinese don't have political, executive or union corruption that
comes with the bulbs.

Say what?

And once again, you prove you don't know **** from shoepolish about
China or much else.

Know more than most, I read beyond the rhetoric. Certainly more than you.

Another slave labor factory uncovered in Guangdong

Funny, but beats slave labour in the US how? Dollars? $$$ blinding
you? Cost of living is a fraction of the US or Canada.

Fourteen workers, including some with mental disabilities, were rescued
by local government officials from a brick factory in southern Guangdong
in mid-May after their plight was reported in the Guangzhou Daily.

Possibly, they do provide jobs to prisoners, disabled and everyone. US,
and Canada big time have yet to figure out how to teach jail birds to to
work in Club Fed, our disabled live in poverty. Take blind people, 90%
unemployed. Of the 10%, 8% make minimum poverty wage. Yep, US and
Canada, disabled as poverty slaves in the high rent district.

The workers, some as young as 15, had been tricked or even kidnapped by
labor traffickers and sold to the brick factory operator for just 400
yuan. They were forced to work 15 hours a day and beaten by thugs if
they tried to escape. One worker told the newspaper that they were paid
just five yuan for three months work.

So? Sure beats being a 15 year old drug pusher or sex trade worker in
the US or Canada. (yes, I know it happens here, just talk to a cop or
immigration type).

This was the second slave labour case to be exposed in the region in the
last three months, and local officials from Lilin township said they
were investigating another dozen or so brick factories. Previous cases
of slave labour in China have tended to be in relatively remote
locations but Lilin is only about 50 kilometres from downtown Shenzhen.

What about California and Texas Mexican illegals?

The news provoked outrage on social media sites, with netizens
questioning why the factory had been able to operate under the noses of
local officials for eight years and why, even after the case was
exposed, the boss and his gang of thugs had not been arrested.

US track record isn't that stellar. Perhaps better, but not stellar. I
worked when I was 12, so I could get a bike. Taught me a lot.

The owner of a factory in Xinjiang, who used a group of mentally
disabled people as slave labor for more than four years was sentenced to
four and half years in prison on 30 April for a range of criminal
offences, including forced labor and covering up a death. In September
last year, one of the factory workers died after falling into a machine
at the building materials plant in Toksun county. The factory owner, Li
Xinglin, buried the body and did not report the death to the authorities.
From China Labour Bulletin

If it was really slavery, I agree. But isn't like US hasn't had slaves
and underground workers. 1/2 the crops int he US are picked by illegal
under paid uninsured labor.

In the US, try living on a disabled SS, or in Canada on CPP. Surprise
here is that US is in better shape than Canada here.

Scott, with all due respect, energy efficiency is something we should
all be interested in. It turns out that high efficiency bulbs,
especially LEDs, are a good long term investment. Yes, they cost
more, and yes, they still have a few rough edges, but over the useful
life of the bulb the cost per hour is a lot lower. That should be of
interest to anyone who is thrifty. Costs will drop as volume builds
and the technology improves. It's already happening.

Until you can find a way to prevent your guests from stealing these high
dollar light bulbs from you when they visit the won't be cost effective.
Imagine as your guests leave your house after a party the house is dark,
you can't walk through and clean up because all of the $50 LED light
bulbs have been taken as party favors.

No, the new LED's that they are coming out with because the Over priced
mercury filled ones, don't work...

I have compact fluorescent bulbs all over my house and love them. If you
know which ones to get for which application, they are fantastic. If you
don't know and just get what's on sale, there not so good. The LED's are
coming down in price by the day. They last forever and give good light.

Bull****. When LED's get popular the price will drop. Besides, if you do
the math, over a lifetime, you'll save money.

The LED's have been experimented with and still used by some RVers..
Most are unhappy with them. The light is weak and so on. It is just hard
to see with them. They are like bunchs of little cheap LEZD flashlights.
They hurt your eyese to look at them but the light they thow out is weak.
