That may be because the federal government owns most of it .



The infusion of federal dollars into Alaska has a lot to do with the
military's expenditures into that state. If the teahadists in Congress
want to cut spending, they could easily chop $100 billion out of the
military's budget, and do that every year until the budget is half what
it is now.
