I think the Dubya Bush Admin "thinking" went something like this: "We got our butts handed to us on 9-11, we've gotten nowhere looking for bin Laden, the American people want us to take action and if we don't, we'll be voted out in 2004, so...let's trump up a war against Saddam Hussein." Despite the protestations against war you hear from many in the military, the reality is that a war is the best way for more of the military to stay in uniform and obtain promotions. |
