My understanding from reading this newsgroup is that you are boatless,
have been boatless for many, many years, and have no intention of
getting a boat.

I have two boats, both in pretty good shape, one I use on Lake Zoar

"You're" is a contraction for "you are" and usually but not always is
followed by a verb ending in "…ing". Example: You're going to fall on
your face with this one. In a fuller form: You are going to fall on your
face with this one. "…ing" verb forms are called present participles.

"Your" is a possessive adjective, and typically is used to help describe
something that belongs to you. Your apple. Your stupidity. Your
ignorance. Your lack of knowledge of English.

You're only semi-literate; your lack of knowledge of English is telling.

Now, if the sentence that tripped you up had read...

...you would have been in calling out an error, because "you're" should
have been used instead of *your*.

Had you made that mistake on a paper in one of my classes, I would have
marked you down an entire grade letter. Well, I would have under the old
system. Nowadays, we're more oriented towards "pass-fail." I might have
failed your paper. The assumption at this university is that if you were
smart enough to get in here, you should be smart enough to write in
proper English. Some slack is given to those students whose first
language is not English.
