Just in time for another snowstorm, probably.

There were nearly 2000 unread messages in rec.boats when I "logged in"
here. It's a new year, and I'm going to leave them unread.

So, anyone boating or fishing?

:)

No, but I did enjoy your postcard. Now, where are my pineapples and
coconuts and jar of beach sand? :)

I was out Saturday. Nice day, Mr Ed got in a good swim but the tide
was too high to get in a good run on his island. It was more of a
wading trip. We did see a lot of our snowbird friends out there. They
really start packing in here after Christmas.

That sounds great...you're in Florida, right?

I got out on a pretty cheap and relatively small "head boat" last week
and caught a few small fish. The mate took everyone's catch and cooked
up a nice lunch.

Yes, on our way to the FL Keys, no fishing yet but brought 3 trolling
rods with us and a bunch of lures. We're anchored tonight in the
wilderness area near Everglades City. Tomorrow we'll probably end up
in the Little Shark River, well back in the 'glades with no internet,
no cell service, no marine VHF coverage, no nada. It's a beautiful
area but not a good place to get in trouble. Three or four years ago
we had to rescue a guy in a fair sized flats boat who was stranded out
there in the boondocks with an engine that would not start.

Yes, HF SSB radio works just about everywhere but it is not as
convenient for short range communication as marine VHF. Another
alternative is satellite telephone such as the Iridium system. For
most people a sat phone would be the smallest/easiest solution for
communication in remote areas.

My understanding from reading this newsgroup is that you are boatless,

I have two boats, both in pretty good shape, one I use on Lake Zoar and
one I use in Long Island Sound.

On that basis, my presence here in "rec.boats" seems appropriate.

Out on the mighty Lake Zoar, we use ordinary cell phones. It's not a
very big lake. :)

Out on the even more mighty Long Island Sound, though, it's not
difficult to get out of range of VHF. About 10-12 miles out and it is
sometimes hard to raise shore stations, although you can raise the Coast
Guard with its big towers. Must be that line of sight thing.

Don't get excited...it was suggested I look at this post of yours.

You're wrong. You should apply for a refund from your ESL class.

"You're" is a contraction for "you are" and usually but not always is
followed by a verb ending in "…ing". Example: You're going to fall on
your face with this one. In a fuller form: You are going to fall on your
face with this one. "…ing" verb forms are called present participles.

"Your" is a possessive adjective, and typically is used to help describe
something that belongs to you. Your apple. Your stupidity. Your
ignorance. Your lack of knowledge of English.

You're only semi-literate; your lack of knowledge of English is telling.

Now, if the sentence that tripped you up had read...

"It is laughable that *your* calling someone a moron who has an earned
doctorate and is a tenured professor at a significant university; you
only got out of high school because you were socially promoted."

....you would have been in calling out an error, because "you're" should
have been used instead of *your*.

Had you made that mistake on a paper in one of my classes, I would have
marked you down an entire grade letter. Well, I would have under the old
system. Nowadays, we're more oriented towards "pass-fail." I might have
failed your paper. The assumption at this university is that if you were
smart enough to get in here, you should be smart enough to write in
proper English. Some slack is given to those students whose first
language is not English.

Don't you wish you had paid attention in school instead of daydreaming
about MaryJane's breasts?

Oh, no, the alleged liberal arts language guru said "Your calling
someone....." That should be You're calling....Can't wait to see if Don
the Dumb will jump on this one.

"It is laughable that *your* calling someone a moron who has an earned
doctorate and is a tenured professor at a significant university; you
only got out of high school because you were socially promoted."

...you would have been in calling out an error, because "you're" should
have been used instead of *your*.

Hey! *I* multitasked in school. I thought about those breasts *and* my
classwork!

There were nearly 2000 unread messages in rec.boats when I "logged in"

So, anyone boating or fishing?

:)

Are you another disgruntled Tea Party fella?

My understanding from reading this newsgroup is that you are boatless,
have been boatless for many, many years, and have no intention of
getting a boat.

I have two boats, both in pretty good shape, one I use on Lake Zoar and
one I use in Long Island Sound.

On that basis, my presence here in "rec.boats" seems appropriate.

Why are you here?

If you are getting that information from Harry, which you are, you are
not only a moron, but you are intellectually dishonest. Just what we
need in our Schools, another dishonest activist.. figures...

1. Bert has stated he is boatless. You either missed his comment or your
reading skills are so ****-poor, you didn't understand what you were
reading. Or both.

2. Your calling someone a moron who has an earned doctorate and is a
tenured professor at a significant university is laughable, since you
only got out of high school because you were socially promoted. With
Loogy gone as Loogy, you are wearing the mantle as Dumbest Poster in

Krause obtained his masters in an obscure calling that left him prepared to be either an teacher of etymology or a dictionary copy editor. Both noble endeavors, but instead he decided to hook up with unions and attempt to brainwash the membership. Must be that the devil and greed made him do it. What a scumbag he turned out to be. Eh?

HF bandwidth is no longer considered that valuable. People trying to
communicate reliably have all moved to repeater based services on VHF
and UHF frequencies. Not even amateur (ham) radio is all that
interested.
