If not cooked properly, they are heavy and chewy. I don't like raw oysters, but I do like raw cherrystone clams. Unfortunately, hepatitis is a risk in eating raw shellfish. You do not want hepatitis. Jerry, the owner of Jerry's Place, has promised to get in some fresh Ipswich clams to make fried whole belly clams, one of my very favorite seafood dishes. I know fellows from Newfoundland that told me the ONLY way to check if the Scallops are fresh is to eat them raw. Don't think I could. He said the fresh ones taste sweet. |
