You know it was a good Saturday when you go work on Sunday to rest.
We did a canoe/kayak trip on NW Florida's Econfina Creek yesterday. It is about 20 miles N of Panama City and is a small spring fed river with crystal clear water and high fern covered banks. The trip from Hwy 20 to the next bridge south is only about 6 miles but we spent so much time at all the many springs that it took us all day to do it. It was too cold for me to swim even with my new prescription swim mask for snorkelling but my 14 yr old daughter and her friend did. Of course, then they nearly froze in the cold air but they changed into dry clothes and were fine after paddling awhile. In Summer, the spring water seems frigid but in the cold air from this front it seemed almost warm at 68 degrees. By odd coincidence, there was an ironman triathlon going on and my youngest sister was in it. The cycling part passed right over the hwy 20 bridge so we got out and watched her go by. One of the springs on the river pours out of a crack in the rock with so much force you cannot paddle against the current and it is crystal clear. |
