built for

a couple

The old boat has a simple inboard marine engine that's easy

service. The newer boat has a pair of diesels that i have an
outside
contractor service. I take the batteries home.

Looks like it is a little better than it was at the end of the
year.... what I find striking is how few posts and posters....
and
the absence of most of those that were here a few years ago.

We have a goodly number of posters here who either have no
interest in
boating or very little interest in boating, and are here *only*
to stir
up crap against posters they don't like. Whatever excuses they
offer up
for their behavior, the fact remains that they and they alone are
responsible for how they behave.

That's the reality of rec.boats, Gene.

Well, it certainly seems that I haven't missed a lot in the last 11
months..... though it *is* a little better than it was the last
time I
checked in.... July 4th weekend.

I still hate the web groups, but they *are* moderated.... and I do
get useful information and advice...

How've you been? What's this I read about a new boat? You didn't
keep
Yo-Ho long!

It started about a week ago... me and Harry got on board, that
made it a
lot easier. The spoofers have outlived their usefulness and when
we had
the opportunity we all remembered why we came here in the first
place,
adn here we are about a week later with a fairly stable base to
work our
way back from... Glad to have you back.. Big hugs from Scottysnerk

Looks like I checked in at the right time. It still was crap here in
July.

Hope things stay on track....

"me and Harry got on board, that made it a lot eaisier."

yikes.

The ID spoofers are active again...this newsgroup is not on track and
will never be.

It's just the one... Just hold fire, and use your kill file.

That's what the ID spoofer wants...to "killfile" HarryK or any other
ID I use. Surely you understand that, right?

The game seems to be to try and marginalize you. If everyone filters the
spoofers each time they act up, your voice is effectively silenced in
this newsgroup.
Quite the little conspiracy!

That is their game.

I don't see why Don cares, he is still stirring up the pot and name
calling... Either way, since you guys keep harping on it, I have an
opinion on the spoofers too. They indeed were here to marginalize one
poster, that is a fact, I do know the original spoofer quite well but he
only spoofed for a day or two and was replaced by a much more prolific
poster. I get the impression he was happy to step aside and watch...
Quite frankly, maybe with the delicate touch of an Atomic Bomb, after
all was said and done, it worked. Yes there was some collateral damage,
and like any battle the "battle plan" went out the window on day one,
but in the end, it worked. I have serious doubts that the target would
be on board with the new policies of the oh so wise Great Sage of Zoar
if he and/or his audience wasn't getting smashed into nonexistence by
the spoofers... Just my opinion, since you all are posting yours, over
and over again.

Me? I'm just happy we got the group back with the exception of a couple
who just can't help but troll.. It's the best it's been in nearly a
decade. Buck up kids, talk about something fun before I have to post
more motorcycle stuff....

One of my nephews started a mid-level job with a federal agency a few
months ago in the area of computer security, specifically cryptology. I
have no idea what he does for a living now, even if he explained it to
me. What we both know, though, is that I paid for about half his college
expenses through the master's degree he got last May. I do believe,
though, that "resolving" usenet IDs and finding out the actual names of
spoofers would be something he could do while comatose.

I've been toying with the idea of asking him to do so with a couple of
the spoofers here, just for grins, of course. I wouldn't do anything
with the information.

Oh...the "original spoofer" was Tom. The more prolific poster is flajim.

"me and Harry got on board, that made it a lot eaisier."

yikes.

The ID spoofers are active again...this newsgroup is not on
track and
will never be.

It's just the one... Just hold fire, and use your kill file.

That's what the ID spoofer wants...to "killfile" HarryK or any
other
ID I use. Surely you understand that, right?

The game seems to be to try and marginalize you. If everyone
filters the
spoofers each time they act up, your voice is effectively
silenced in
this newsgroup.
Quite the little conspiracy!

That is their game.

I don't see why Don cares, he is still stirring up the pot and name
calling... Either way, since you guys keep harping on it, I have an
opinion on the spoofers too. They indeed were here to marginalize one
poster, that is a fact, I do know the original spoofer quite well
but he
only spoofed for a day or two and was replaced by a much more
prolific
poster. I get the impression he was happy to step aside and watch....
Quite frankly, maybe with the delicate touch of an Atomic Bomb, after
all was said and done, it worked. Yes there was some collateral
damage,
and like any battle the "battle plan" went out the window on day one,
but in the end, it worked. I have serious doubts that the target
would
be on board with the new policies of the oh so wise Great Sage of
Zoar
if he and/or his audience wasn't getting smashed into nonexistence by
the spoofers... Just my opinion, since you all are posting yours,
over

Me? I'm just happy we got the group back with the exception of a
couple
who just can't help but troll.. It's the best it's been in nearly a
decade. Buck up kids, talk about something fun before I have to post
more motorcycle stuff....

One of my nephews started a mid-level job with a federal agency a few
months ago in the area of computer security, specifically
cryptology. I
have no idea what he does for a living now, even if he explained it to
me. What we both know, though, is that I paid for about half his
college
expenses through the master's degree he got last May. I do believe,
though, that "resolving" usenet IDs and finding out the actual
names of
spoofers would be something he could do while comatose.

I've been toying with the idea of asking him to do so with a couple of
the spoofers here, just for grins, of course. I wouldn't do anything
with the information.

Oh...the "original spoofer" was Tom. The more prolific poster is

no... I was the original spoofer.. About ten posts over three days then
I was pushed out of the way so I sat back and watched from that point
on.

So, *you* started the mess, eh? Cute.

You are totally uninformed... We have tried to fill you in. Use me as a
scapegoat if you wish, but what I did was instrumental in getting us
here, period. Take it or leave it, we have all tried to fill you in, if
you won't/can't listen, not our problem anymore. Quit your crying and
post something interesting, or just go ahead and move along like you
keep threatening.. We have seen literally hundreds just like you over
the years, when you go, or go to the dark side, another will come in
your place. Personally, I hope you just buck up and post something...

Well, as a newbie, you didn't get me anywhere. I started reading this
newsgroup to learn more about boats, to share a hobby, et cetera. It
seems that what you did by starting the ID spoofing was give several
other posters the idea that it was "The Thing" to do.

It is fascinating how you refuse to take responsibility for a mess you
have had a heavy hand in creating by your own admission. If you were
sincere, you would do whatever was possible to convince the ID spoofers
and others who misbehave to stop.

Instead, you think a newsgroup that is filled with juvenile delinquents
has somehow evolved.

political posts to disrupt the rec.boats.

Usually, I winterize the engine and leave it under cover in the marina on a

BTW, Harry, thanks for the info. Childress had a couple delays, but he showed up

You keep claiming that the ID spoofers served some sort of purpose here,

That's bull****.

All they did was disrupt this newsgroup further, and drive away posters.

The best thing that could happen to usenet would be moderated-only
newsgroups.

It's time to move on, and time to leave behind that silliness.

Scotty, I'd hate to pull up some of your recent posts just to show how f'ing

And, I've got to agree with Harry. The spoofers, one or two of them, were funny

Two things:

1) A warm battery is a more chemically active battery, thus more
cranking power, and

2) a fully charged battery won't freeze where we live(-77 deg F), but
a discharged battery will (20 deg F).

I've resigned myself to charging up the batteries in the boat because
they are too damned big to move easily, and to open the cover once a
month to charge them up.

Harry, what was your motivation for coming here daily and insulting
everyone, lying about others, name calling and accusing people of
outlandish things like breaking their kid's arms, incest, etc.?

Wow, what a lie! Paul, are you listening? This is a lie. I never, ever
accused Scott of having an incestuous relation with his daughter in a
tent. I never, ever accused Kevin of breaking his daughter's arms. It's
all lies, lies, lies!

For that matter, I never accused anyone of bestiality either, come to
think of it.

Anything else I need to deny?

Spoofing again, little man?

Just telling the truth, big man.

Almost every reasonable poster has asked you to stop this ID spoofing
silliness. Why are you doing it? It sure doesn't help improve the
atmosphere around here.

That is, basically, what I tell my students. Buy what fits your
hand.... and at 40% - 60% off even Snap-On is affordable....

Snap on feels wonderful in the hand but hits the wallet hard. By the
time I got through giving the snap on guy his monthly due, it was
significantly more challenging to pay rent and buy food.

Yeah, I never did get that, the shinier the wrench the longer it
lasts, thing. Especially since I'm still using my Dad's tools he
bought in about 1927.

The final nail in the coffin was the blaxk oxide tools that were
equivalent to the shinies, except the chrome would flake off and FOD
whatever you were working on....

Have any of you seen the briefcase style tool kits that Crescent is
selling:

http://www.amazon.com/Crescent-Mecha.../dp/B000BQMLLY

I bought a set 2 years ago to keep on the boat and I'm very impressed
with overall quality and feel. We've got a local hardware store
selling them as a loss leader for about $60 or so.

No, but I'm going to check it out. I need something compact for the MC
trailer....

It's compact and fairly complete. There's only a few extra things
that I use regularly: large Channellocks, large screwdriver, large
and small crescent wrench, hammer, vice grips, crimper/stripper.

It's really better around here, what with the ID spoofers still ID

I think that if everyone ignores them, the fun will be out of it

And just like his buddy Harry, Don didn't last a day without name
calling and insulting.

That's a lie..........

Harry couldn't go one day without insulting and name calling and neither
could Don.

Small suggestion... instead of asking a spoofer to stop, stop
responding to him? Obviously, asking isn't helping. (Disclaimer: I'm
not claiming anyone is spoofing or not spoofing.)
