But like many Depression-era automobiles, some of the best things came from that period of time in American history. Known as a “Roll-deck” Chris-Craft for its transitional raised coamings around the cockpits, the top-of –the-line 27’ Custom Runabout was built for ten years – but with only 62 examples built – total. Sugar Lady is hull number 10, of only 10 1932 models. What makes Sugar Lady most unique however, is the oval-windowed Dietrich convertible top, known as a one-man top originally. In addition to the one-man top, Sugar Lady’s original build sheet documents that it was delivered with high-compression cylinder heads for its 825 cubic inch Chris- Craft A-120 V-8 engine. Completely restored by Doug Morin in the late 1980s, Sugar Lady is regarded as one of the finest triple cockpit runabouts anywhere....Cost new in 1932: $5,000 " good Lord! I wonder what that'll bring??? |

The guy has a recovery diver in the great lakes who brings up scuttled boats from the bottom. So deep and cold there, the one I saw being redone still had a lot of it's original varnish on it, for sure, nothing was rotted. Some parts were missing but were being replaced. The guy is a real artist, next time I am down there I will ask if I can take a shot or two of his current project... He restores them and sells them for a lot of money... |
