You heard wrong. Actually, I encountered herring several times at a
marina. Once, when he was with his wife, he acted rudely. She did not.

My recollection and this was seven years ago or so is that herring was
just finishing up washing his boat, and I was still working on mine. I
chatted with his wife and then she headed off to the head or the car or
whatever. Herring said his wife liked my boat so I invited him to help
her aboard. He got snotty and left.

That was it, and was my first realization that my suspicions about
herring were correct...he was indeed a flaming ass.
