Later this summer a hurricane hits somewhere. FEMA orders an evac.
Later after all is clear, FEMA refuses to allow anybody back in to
repair damaged roofs thus causing small amounts of damage to become so
severe that the private insurance industry goes under.

My policy says I have to mitigate my damages ASAP regardless, so that
would
relieve some burden on the insurance company I guess, I dealt with this in
Florida, just because you have 2 back to back hurricanes if you have
damage
from the first and you don't stabilize or mitigate that damage of the
first
one the insurance co. can't be held liable for damage that occurred as
result of unrepaired damage from the seconed one, basically if you don't
get
your roof fixed and it comes more rain and wind the next day you lose,

Fooggie's "prediction" is actually history. That happened to a lot of
people here after Charlie. The people who stayed and did immediate
mitigation came out a lot better than those who evacuated and were not
let back in for a couple weeks.
The real trick is having a fairly good assortment of supplies on hand.
If nothing else, buy a poly tarp as big as your roof and a bucket of
tin tabs. You will usually have 2 or 3 sunny days after the storm
because it cools the water off so much.but then you are going back to
a thunderstorm every afternoon. That is going to be your window to do
your repairs.

The other thing that is invaluable is a network of neighbors who will
share resources.

We have the best neighbors in Florida, Old farts but they always pull
together, I applaude there spirit and dedication one to the other, when you
live a 1000 mile away from you family and they suffer, it a comfort to know
that there all close nit homeys down there and hard to beat.

floridians are tuff, I married one...

best regards,
happy
